10 Tips For Training Your English Cocker Spaniel

We all imagine training the perfect English Cocker Spaniel, a pup that is a CGC or canine good citizen and is well mannered and reliable at all times. Well dreams really do come true when the teaching is performed with care and focus. Always remember pups learn from day one and really need to be shown what is correct, what isn’t, and effective socialization.
Pups are like young children, they need to have regular direction and instruction. Training a pup does not have to be an ordeal, all you want to think about are a few basic rules:

Ten Tips For Training Your English Cocker Spaniel

  1. Until your pup is trained, you need to keep an eye on her at all times. When you can’t then you will need to crate him. Make a calendar for the pup, that will help her to settle down very quickly. The routine must consist of things such as hourly potty breaks, eating times, relaxation periods, strolls, play time, education, and so on. A pup that has a hectic day has no time at all to be unoccupied and get into mischief.
  2. Train the pup to value you. English Cocker Spaniels stay in packs and instinctively follow a leader. If you establish your leadership in no uncertain terms then coaching will come easy as the pup will comply with orders at all times and not challenge your power.
  3. Use exclusively positive training techniques. Do not ever scream at, attack, or punish your English Cocker Spaniel. It is not only terrible but will provoke behavioral issues. Use of electrical shocks, prong collars, sprays, and so on could wound the animal.
  4. Show the pup “absolutely nothing in life is without cost.” This is a method of teaching that is frequently accepted as a very useful training method. As you execute this, the pup will learn that to get something like love, a stroll, or reward, he will need to act well.
  5. Present the meaning of “No,” from the first day. Do not endorse actions such as leaping, growling, tug-o-war, barking, or running out of open gates and doorways. Commend courtesy and dismiss or leave when there is bad conduct. The pup will realize that if he acts up he will lose his companion/playmate.
  6. To deal with a behavior you should witness the English Cocker Spaniel in the process and startle her by shaking a container of stones. Once you have done this make him adjust his behavior and immediately offer him a snack and appreciation. English Cocker Spaniels do not think of what transpired earlier so rebuking him after an event is futile.
  7. Always call/use his name positively. Do not ever say “Bad TOM,” or “No Tom,” this will result in mental confusion and the English Cocker Spaniel will believe that if you call his name then it is something negative. The doggie should identify his name with happy things like hugs, petting, strolls, snacks, and such. If this happens he will respond willingly the second you call his name.
  8. Create a training regimen that is short and sweet, about 10 minutes three times a day. Lengthy repeated lessons can be monotonous and the English Cocker Spaniel is going to lose interest in learning. Make learning entertaining and use trick training to explain commands like sit, down, come and more.
  9. Bond with the English Cocker Spaniel and both of you will get a kick out of your sessions. The pup should hope for hanging out with you and not avoid you by breaking away or taking cover. Make sure to socialize the puppy dog quickly. Socialization is one of the most vital teachings. The English Cocker Spaniel must definitely master how to be with other animals, people, sounds, vehicles, and other activities. Therefore, slowly and gradually introduce the puppy dog when he is little to day-to-day activities and noises. Take him to the shopping centre/ dog park, introduce him to kids and other animals, and make him unfrightened of the vacuum and garden hose.
  10. Study all about potty training, leash walking, house breaking, along with food training. These are introductory lessons that every English Cocker Spaniel puppy should grasp. Know about all the mannerisms in addition to qualities of the breed. This will give you valuable insights on how to properly educate the doggy.

As a English Cocker Spaniel parent you have many choices. You could certainly decide to train the English Cocker Spaniel yourself or enlist at a qualified training school. Training a English Cocker Spaniel has numerous levels: kindergarten, obedience training, doggy sports, showing and conformation, and other facets like therapy dogs, hearing dogs, and so on. What degree you choose to train hinges on you together with the learning abilities of your English Cocker Spaniel. As you understand, different dogs, like humans, possess varied talents. Choose wisely and both you and your English Cocker Spaniel pup will have fun times together.
