10 Keys For Training Your Thai Ridgeback

All of us long for training the perfect Thai Ridgeback, a puppy that is a CGC or canine good citizen and is well behaved and dependable at all times. Well dreams really do come true when the teaching is performed with kindness and dedication. Keep in mind pups learn from the first day and want to be shown what is correct, what is wrong, and proper socialization.
Pups are just like children, they have to have regular supervision and training. Training a pup need not be a challenge, all you need to think about are a few simple principles:

10 Tips For Training Your Thai Ridgeback

  1. Til your pup is trained, you have to keep an eye on him at all times. When you are unable to then you will need to cage him. Put together a routine for the pup, that will enable her to settle down very quickly. The schedule will need to consist of things such as hourly potty visits, feeding times, sleep times, walks, play time, exercise, and so forth. A pup that has a full day has no time for being unoccupied or get into mischief.
  2. Teach the pup to appreciate you. Thai Ridgebacks stay in packs and naturally comply with a leader. Once you establish your dominance in no uncertain terms then training will come to be easy as the pup will obey you at all times and not test your authority.
  3. Use only encouraging training tactics. Never yell at, hit, or punish your Thai Ridgeback. It’s not only terrible but might induce behavioral challenges. Use of electrical shocks, prong collars, sprays, etc may wound the animal.
  4. Teach the pup “absolutely nothing in life is free.” This is a method of teaching that is widely regarded as a reliable teaching tool. As you reinforce this, your pup will be taught that to get something like affection, a stroll, or treat, he needs to behave properly.
  5. Teach the meaning of “No,” from the first day. Do not reinforce behaviors such as leaping, growling, tug-o-war, snarling, or running out of open gates and doorways. Commend proper behavior and dismiss or walk away when there is bad behavior. The pup will discover that if he acts up he will lose his companion/playmate.
  6. To fix a behavior you need to catch the Thai Ridgeback in the process and surprise him by shaking a jar of marbles. When you have done this make him rectify his behavior and immediately offer him a treat and praise. Thai Ridgebacks do not recall what took place previously so rebuking him after an event is futile.
  7. Be sure you call/use his name positively. Never say “Bad TOM,” or “No Tom,” this will result in mental confusion and the Thai Ridgeback will believe that if you call his name then it is something bad. The puppy should link his name with happy times like hugs, petting, strolls, food, and such. If this occurs he will approach happily if you call his name.
  8. Establish a teaching routine that is short and sweet, say 10 minutes three times a day. Lengthy repetitive sessions can be boring and the Thai Ridgeback will lose interest in learning. Make learning cool and use trick training sessions to show orders like sit, down, come et cetera.
  9. Bond with the Thai Ridgeback and both of you will get a kick out of your lessons. The pup ought to hope for spending time with you and not avoid you by breaking away or taking cover. Make sure to socialize the dog early. Socialization is among the most important lessons. The Thai Ridgeback will need to learn to exist with other animals, people, sounds, vehicles, and other activities. And so, slowly and gradually introduce the puppy when he is little to ordinary activities and noises. Take him to the shopping mall/ playground, present him to kids and other animals, and make him unafraid of the vacuum and water hose.
  10. Learn everything about cage training, leash walking, house breaking, in addition to food training. These are basic lessons that every Thai Ridgeback puppy should master. Learn about all the characteristics in addition to peculiarities of the breed. This will give you valuable ideas on how to effectively educate the puppy dog.
