Sooner or later, every parent is going to be asked: “Daddy, can we get that Leonberger puppy?”
Instead of ignoring the question, parents should think about whether or not their family is prepared for a new puppy, especially a Leonberger, says Sharon Bergen, SVP of education and training for Knowledge Learning Corporation, this country’s foremost provider of early childcare.
When pondering “should the family get the Leonberger” Bergen advises parents weigh the plusses and minuses of bringing the Leonberger to the household before giving in to a kid’s request. “The Leonberger can teach kids responsibility and be a fantastic addition to the household-or it can become a mistake,” she has said. Bergen advises you think about the following before deciding:
Things to Consider Before Deciding Should You Get The Leonberger Puppy
Who will care for the Leonberger? Families should come to an agreement beforehand who is to be the one in charge of feeding, walking, bathing and picking up behind the Leonberger.
Do you have space for the Leonberger, or does your landlord allow dogs? Folks living in apartments or townhouses may be better suited to a bird, a cat, or fish, instead of the Leonberger. Check at the library or Internet to find out more about Leonbergers to decide if another breed may be more suitable for your family.
Rearing the Leonberger is a big committment and not cheap. Family members must understand that they will be expected to give up existing activities to properly care for the Leonberger. If this thought is too daunting, you might suggest delaying until the child is committed enough to help raise the Leonberger.
Conclusion: Should You Get A Leonberger
Bergen advises the entire household meet the Leonberger prior to committing to take it home. Owning the Leonberger is a huge commitment, so decide carefully before getting one.
