Sooner or later, most parents are likely to be asked: “Daddy, can we get that Keeshond puppy?”
Instead of avoiding the question, parents should decide whether the clan is ready for a new puppy, especially a Keeshond, says Sharon Bergen, senior vice president of education and training for Knowledge Learning Corporation, the nation’s leading provider of early childcare.
While deciding “should the family get the Keeshond” Bergen suggests parents weigh the plusses and minuses of bringing the Keeshond to the household before agreeing to a kid’s wishes. “The Keeshond can teach kids about responsibility and be a great addition to a household-or it can become a mistake,” she is quoted as saying. Bergen advises parents ponder the following before deciding:
Questions to Ponder Before Answering Should You Get The Keeshond Puppy
Who is going to care for the Keeshond? Parents and children should come to an agreement in advance who is to be the one responsible for walking feeding, bathing and picking up after the Keeshond.
Is there an area for the Keeshond, and does your landlord allow dogs? Folks living in apartments or townhouses may be better suited to a fish, a cat, or bird, rather than the Keeshond. Check your local library or Internet to learn more about Keeshonds to determine if another dog may be more suitable for the household.
Rearing the Keeshond is time consuming and may be expensive. The family has to realize that they may have to forego current activities to spend time with the Keeshond. If that requirement is too daunting, parents may want to consider postponing until the child is old enough to help care for the Keeshond.
Conclusion: Should You Get A Keeshond
Bergen suggests the whole household meet the Keeshond in advance of deciding whether to take it home. Owning the Keeshond is a big commitment, so think carefully before getting one.
