Sooner or later, every parent is going to hear: “Mommy, may I have that Eurasier puppy?”
Instead of dodging the question, parents are advised to consider whether or not their family is prepared for a new dog, especially a Eurasier, says Sharon Bergen, senior vice president of education and training for Knowledge Learning Corporation, the country’s foremost provider of early childhood education and care.
While pondering “should we get the Eurasier” Bergen recommends parents weigh the pros and cons of bringing the Eurasier to the family before acquiescing to a child’s request. “The Eurasier can teach your children responsibility and become a pleasant addition to your family-or it can be a regret,” she is quoted as saying. Do you have space for the Eurasier, or does your landlord allow dogs? Families living in townhouses or apartments may be better suited to a cat, a bird or fish, instead of the Eurasier. Check at the library or online to find out more about Eurasiers to decide if another dog may be more appropriate for your family.
Owning the Eurasier is a big committment and not cheap. Family members has to know that they are required to give up current activities to properly care for the Eurasier. If the prospect is too daunting, parents may think about postponing until the child is responsible enough to help raise the Eurasier.
