To teach your Slovensky Kopov tricks, even the simple ones, you need to provide some small treats, teach him in an obscure suitable location and manage to keep the instruction sessions to 10 – 15 minutes or the Slovensky Kopov will start to get bored. Take note that when he gets something right give him lots of appreciation and a reward snack, just beware not to get him overly thrilled or he will lose focus.
Teach your Slovensky Kopov to give you his paw
To teach your Slovensky Kopov to give you his paw, first get him to sit, then as you state the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and offer him a treat. Next do it again, and after a few tries do not take his paw so fast. Say the word ‘paw’, count to one and then take it. You should observe that he is bringing his paw up as you state the word. If he does not then return to stating it at the same time. Do it a couple of more times then slow your reaction once again. After 2 or 3 sessions most Slovensky Kopovs pick this trick up quite easily.
Teach your Slovensky Kopov to offer you a high 5
Like a lot of tricks the high five is a progression of an earlier trick, in this case the paw trick. Place a snack in between your two fingers and raise your hand a little higher than you’d do for the paw trick. Your Slovensky Kopov will think you wish to perform the paw trick and will grab the treat with his paw as we taught him earlier. Once he rises you state “high five” and offer your Slovensky Kopov the treat. As soon as your Slovensky Kopov has mastered the paw trick this one should be extremely easy to understand and with just a few sessions he will be accomplishing it on hand signal rather than your voice.
Teach your Slovensky Kopov to leap through a hoop
Before you begin this 1 I would simply like to ask you to be a little reasonable and not suspend the hoop too high as you don’t really want your Slovensky Kopov to harm himself while performing the trick. Set your Slovensky Kopov on 1 side of a hula hoop, get him to focus on your hand on the opposite side of the hoop. Place a snack in your hand and offer the Slovensky Kopov the direction to stop sitting. In the beginning he may try to go around or underneath the hoop. When this takes place begin again. Your Slovensky Kopov wants the treat and will quickly discover that going around or under does not work so he will soon begin going through it. The minute he does, say “hoop” and offer him the snack. He’ll soon be leaping through the hoop on the command of “hoop”. When I began teaching this trick I owned a medium sized dog, so I started with the hoop six inches from the floor and slowly brought it to waist high. On the occasion that you have a smaller dog you might wish to start with the hoop touching the floor so he just goes through the hoop and after that gradually raise it once he gets accustomed to the trick.
I trust you have enjoyed learning these 3 tricks you can teach your Slovensky Kopov. Have patience with your Slovensky Kopov and most importantly, have a good time!
