To teach your Segugio Italiano tricks, even easy ones, you need to carry some of his favorite snacks, be in a quiet suitable place and keep the teaching sessions to under fifteen minutes or the Segugio Italiano will start to get bored. Keep in mind when he gets something right give him great deals of appreciation and a reward snack, just be cautious not to get him overly excited or he will lose concentration.
Teach your Segugio Italiano to give you his paw
To get your Segugio Italiano to offer you his paw, first get him to sit, then as you state the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and give him a snack. Then repeat this, and after a couple of tries do not take his paw so fast. Say the word ‘paw’, count to one and then after that take it. You need to notice that he is raising his paw upward as you state the word. If he doesn’t then return to stating it at the very same time. Do it a few more times then slow your reaction again. After just a couple of sessions most Segugio Italianos pick this trick up quite quickly.
Teach your Segugio Italiano to offer you a high five
Like a great deal of tricks the high 5 is a continuation of an earlier trick, in this case the paw trick. Hold a snack in between your fingers and lift your hand just a bit higher than you’d raise it for the paw trick. Your Segugio Italiano will expect you wish to perform the paw trick and will reach for the snack with his paw as we taught him earlier. While he reaches up you say “high 5” and give him the treat. As soon as your Segugio Italiano has mastered the paw trick this one should be very easy to understand and with just a few sessions he will be accomplishing it on hand signal rather than vocal commands.
Teach your Segugio Italiano to leap through a hoop
Before you start this 1 I would just like to ask you to be a little reasonable and not hold the hoop too high up as you do not want your Segugio Italiano to harm himself while performing the trick. Set your Segugio Italiano on 1 side of a hula hoop, get him to pay attention to your hand on the other side of the hoop. Hold a treat in your hand and give the Segugio Italiano the command to stop sitting. In the beginning he might try to walk around or underneath the hoop. If this occurs start once again. Your Segugio Italiano desires the snack and will quickly find out that walking around or under does not get it done so he will quickly start going through it. As soon as he does, state “hoop” and offer him the snack. He will soon be leaping through the hoop on the command of “hoop”. When I started doing this trick I owned a medium sized dog, so I started with the hoop 6 inches from the floor and gradually brought it to waist high. In case you have a smaller dog you may wish to start with the hoop on the floor so he just goes through the hoop and then slowly raise it more once he gets used to the trick.
I really hope you have enjoyed these 3 tricks you can teach your Segugio Italiano. Have patience with your Segugio Italiano and above all, have fun!
