To teach your Rottweiler tricks, even simple ones, you should carry some small treats, go to a secluded suitable location and hold the instruction sessions to 10 – 15 minutes or your Rottweiler will begin to get bored. Just remember when he gets something right offer him lots of appreciation and a reward treat, however be mindful not to get him excessively fired up or he will lose concentration.
Teach your Rottweiler to offer you his paw
To train your Rottweiler to offer you his paw, initially get him to sit, then as you state the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and offer him a treat. After that do this again, and after a couple of times don’t take his paw so fast. State the word ‘paw’, count to 1 and only then take it. You must see that he is bringing his paw upward as you state the word. If he does not then go back to saying it at the exact same time. Do it a couple of more times then slow your response once again. After a couple of sessions most Rottweilers pick this trick up rather easily.
Teach your Rottweiler to offer you a high 5
Like a lot of tricks the high five is a continuation of an earlier trick, in this case the paw trick. Place a treat in between your fingers and raise your hand just a little higher than you’d raise it for the paw trick. Your Rottweiler will assume you wish to perform the paw trick and will grab the treat with his paw as we trained him previously. As he reaches up you say “high 5” and offer him the snack. When your Rottweiler has actually mastered the paw trick this one will probably be extremely easy to understand and with only a couple of sessions he will be doing it from your hand signal instead of voice control.
Teach your Rottweiler to leap through a hoop
Before you start this 1 I would just like to ask you to be a little practical and not hold the hoop higher than necessary as you do not want your Rottweiler to harm himself while practicing the trick. Place your Rottweiler to 1 side of a hula hoop, get him to take note of your hand on the other side of the hoop. Place a snack in your hand and give the Rottweiler the command to stop sitting. Initially he may attempt to walk around or under the hula hoop. When this takes place begin once again. Your Rottweiler desires the treat and will quickly find out that going around or under does not work so he will soon start going through it. The instant he does, say “hoop” and offer him the treat. He’ll soon be leaping through the hoop upon the command of “hoop”. When I initially started doing this trick I had a medium sized dog, so I started with the hoop six inches from the floor and slowly raised it to waist high. In case you own a smaller dog you may wish to begin with the hoop on the floor so he simply goes through the hoop and after that gradually lift it more once he gets used to the trick.
I trust you have enjoyed these 3 tricks you can teach your Rottweiler. Have patience with your Rottweiler and most importantly, have fun!
