To teach your Pyrenean Mastiff tricks, even simple ones, you should get some small treats, take him to a secluded suitable place and maintain the training sessions to 10 – 15 minutes or your Pyrenean Mastiff will begin to get bored. Take note that when he gets something right offer him great deals of appreciation and a reward snack, however be mindful not to get him overly ecstatic or he will lose focus.
Teach your Pyrenean Mastiff to give you his paw
To teach your Pyrenean Mastiff to offer you his paw, initially get him to sit, then as you say the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and offer him a snack. Now do this again, and after a couple of practices don’t take his paw so quickly. State the word ‘paw’, count to 1 and then after that take it. You need to see that he is bringing his paw up as you state the word. If he doesn’t then return to saying it at the same time. Do it a few more times then slow your reaction once again. After two or three sessions most Pyrenean Mastiffs pick this trick up quite easily.
Teach your Pyrenean Mastiff to offer you a high 5
Like a great deal of tricks the high 5 is a progression of an earlier trick, in this case it’s the paw trick. Place a treat in between your fingers and raise your hand just a bit higher than you’d do for the paw trick. Your Pyrenean Mastiff will assume you wish to do the paw trick and will grab the treat with his paw as we had trained him in the prior trick. Once he rises you state “high five” and give your Pyrenean Mastiff the treat. Once your Pyrenean Mastiff has mastered the paw trick this 1 should be very easy to understand and with just a couple of sessions he will be accomplishing it from your hand signal instead of from your voice.
Teach your Pyrenean Mastiff to jump through a hoop
Before you begin this 1 I would simply like to ask you to be a little reasonable and not hold the hoop too high up as you don’t want your Pyrenean Mastiff to hurt himself while practicing the trick. Place your Pyrenean Mastiff on 1 side of a hula hoop, get him to pay attention to your hand on the other side of the hoop. Place a treat in your hand and offer the Pyrenean Mastiff the command to stop sitting. In the beginning he might try to walk around or underneath the hula hoop. When this takes place begin once again. Your Pyrenean Mastiff wants the snack and will quickly learn that walking around or underneath doesn’t get it so he will soon start going through it. If he does, say “hoop” and give him the snack. He will soon be jumping through the hoop on the command of “hoop”. When I first began teaching this trick I had a medium sized dog, so I began with the hoop six inches from the ground and gradually raised it to waist height. In the case that you own a smaller dog you may wish to start with the hoop on the ground so he just goes through the hoop and then slowly lift it more once he gets used to the trick.
I know you have enjoyed learning these 3 tricks you can teach your Pyrenean Mastiff. Have patience with your Pyrenean Mastiff and above all, have fun!
