Want to Teach Your Polish Greyhound Some Tricks: Here are Three

3 Tricks To Teach Your Polish Greyhound
3 Tricks To Teach Your Polish Greyhound

To teach your Polish Greyhound tricks, even the easy ones, you should have some yummy treats, teach him in a quiet suitable location and manage to keep the teaching sessions to under 15 minutes or the Polish Greyhound will begin to get bored. Always remember when he gets something correct offer him lots of praise and a reward treat, just take care not to get him excessively excited or he could lose focus.

Teach your Polish Greyhound to give you his paw

To get your Polish Greyhound to offer you his paw, first get him to sit, then as you state the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and offer him a snack. Next repeat this, and after a few practices don’t take his paw so quickly. Say the word ‘paw’, count to 1 and after that take it. You must observe that he is bringing his paw upward as you state the word. If he doesn’t then go back to stating it at the same time. Do it a couple of more times then slow your response again. After a couple of sessions most Polish Greyhounds pick this trick up quite easily.

Teach your Polish Greyhound to offer you a high 5

Like a lot of tricks the high five is a continuation of an easier trick, in this case the paw trick. Place a treat in your fingers and raise your hand slightly higher than you would for the paw trick. Your Polish Greyhound will assume you want to do the paw trick and will grab the snack with his paw as we taught him in the prior trick. As he reaches up you state “high five” and offer your Polish Greyhound the treat. When your Polish Greyhound has mastered the paw trick this one will likely be really simple to master and with just a few sessions he will be accomplishing it on hand signal rather than voice control.

Teach your Polish Greyhound to jump through a hoop

Before you start this one I would simply like to ask you to be a little sensible and not suspend the hoop too high up as you don’t want your Polish Greyhound to harm himself while doing the trick. Set your Polish Greyhound to one side of a hula hoop, get him to focus on your hand on the other side of the hoop. Place a treat in your hand and give the Polish Greyhound the command to stop sitting. Initially he might try to go around or beneath the hoop. In the event that this happens begin once again. Your Polish Greyhound desires the treat and will quickly learn that walking around or beneath doesn’t work so he’ll quickly begin going through it. The second he does, say “hoop” and offer him the snack. He will quickly be jumping through the hoop on the command of “hoop”. When I began doing this trick I owned a medium sized dog, so I started with the hoop 6 inches from the ground and slowly increased it to waist high. If you have a smaller dog you may wish to begin with the hoop on the floor so he simply goes through the hoop and after that slowly lift it more as he gets used to the trick.

I hope you have enjoyed these 3 tricks you can teach your Polish Greyhound. Have patience with your Polish Greyhound and above all, have fun!
