To teach your Phu Quoc Ridgeback Dog tricks, even the easy ones, you should carry some delicious treats, teach him in a secluded suitable place and keep the instruction sessions to under 15 minutes or your Phu Quoc Ridgeback Dog will begin to get tired. Remember when he gets something right give him lots of praise and a reward treat, though be careful not to get him extremely thrilled or he will lose focus.
Teach your Phu Quoc Ridgeback Dog to give you his paw
To get your Phu Quoc Ridgeback Dog to give you his paw, first get him to sit, then as you say the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and give him a snack. Now do this again, and after a few practices don’t take his paw so quickly. State the word ‘paw’, count to 1 and then take it. You need to see that he is raising his paw upward as you say the word. If he doesn’t then go back to saying it at the same time. Do it a few more times then slow your reaction once again. After two or three sessions most Phu Quoc Ridgeback Dogs pick this trick up quite easily.
Teach your Phu Quoc Ridgeback Dog to offer you a high five
Like a great deal of tricks the high five is a continuation of a basic trick, and in this case the paw trick. Place a snack in between your two fingers and raise your hand just a little higher than you’d do for the paw trick. Your Phu Quoc Ridgeback Dog will think you desire to do the paw trick and will grab the treat with his paw as we had instructed him in the previous trick. Once he reaches up you state “high five” and give him the snack. As soon as your Phu Quoc Ridgeback Dog has actually mastered the paw trick this one will likely be extremely easy to understand and with only a few sessions he will be performing it on hand signal rather than from your voice.
Teach your Phu Quoc Ridgeback Dog to jump through a hoop
Before you start this 1 I would just like to ask you to be a little reasonable and not hold the hoop too high up as you do not really want your Phu Quoc Ridgeback Dog to hurt himself while carrying out the trick. Set your Phu Quoc Ridgeback Dog to 1 side of a hula hoop, get him to take note of your hand on the opposite side of the hoop. Place a snack in your hand and give the Phu Quoc Ridgeback Dog the command to stop sitting. In the beginning he may try to go around or under the hula hoop. If this takes place start again. Your Phu Quoc Ridgeback Dog wants the snack and will soon learn that going around or beneath doesn’t get it done so he will quickly start going through it. When he does, state “hoop” and give him the treat. He’ll quickly be jumping through the hoop upon the command of “hoop”. When I started teaching this trick I had a medium sized dog, so I started with the hoop 6 inches from the ground and gradually brought it to waist height. On the occasion that you have a smaller sized dog you may wish to start with the hoop on the ground so he just goes through the hoop and then slowly lift it more as he gets used to the trick.
I know you have enjoyed learning these 3 tricks you can teach your Phu Quoc Ridgeback Dog. Have patience with your Phu Quoc Ridgeback Dog and most importantly, have fun!
