To teach your North Country Beagle tricks, even simple ones, you need to have in hand some of his favorite snacks, be in a secluded suitable location and hold the teaching sessions to under 15 minutes or the North Country Beagle will begin to get bored. Always remember when he gets something right give him great deals of praise and a reward treat, just beware not to get him extra excited or he might lose focus.
Teach your North Country Beagle to give you his paw
To get your North Country Beagle to offer you his paw, first get him to sit, then as you say the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and give him a snack. And then do this again, and after a few times do not take his paw so quickly. State the word ‘paw’, count to one and only then take it. You must discover that he is raising his paw up as you state the word. If he doesn’t then go back to saying it at the same time. Do it a few more times then slow your response once again. After a couple of sessions most North Country Beagles pick this trick up quite quickly.
Teach your North Country Beagle to offer you a high five
Like a lot of tricks the high five is a progression of an earlier trick, in this case it’s the paw trick. Hold a treat in between your fingers and lift your hand a little higher than you’d do for the paw trick. Your North Country Beagle will believe you wish to perform the paw trick and will grab the snack with his paw as we taught him in the previous trick. As he reaches up you state “high 5” and offer your North Country Beagle the treat. Once your North Country Beagle has actually mastered the paw trick this one will probably be really simple to master and with only a couple of sessions he will be doing it from your hand signal instead of voice control.
Teach your North Country Beagle to leap through a hoop
Before you start this one I would simply like to ask you to be a little reasonable and not suspend the hoop too high as you don’t want your North Country Beagle to hurt himself while performing the trick. Set your North Country Beagle on one side of a hula hoop, get him to take notice of your hand on the opposite side of the hoop. Hold a snack in your hand and offer the North Country Beagle the direction to stop sitting. At first he might attempt to go around or under the hoop. In the event that this occurs start again. Your North Country Beagle wants the treat and will soon discover that walking around or under does not get it so he’ll quickly begin going through it. The instant he does, say “hoop” and offer him the snack. He will soon be leaping through the hoop upon the command of “hoop”. When I started off doing this trick I had a medium sized dog, so I started with the hoop six inches from the ground and slowly increased it to waist height. On the occasion that you own a smaller sized dog you might desire to start with the hoop touching the floor so he just goes through the hoop and after that gradually raise it more as he gets used to the trick.
I know you have enjoyed learning these 3 tricks you can teach your North Country Beagle. Have patience with your North Country Beagle and above all, have a good time!
