To teach your Lowchen tricks, even the simple ones, you should have some savory treats, take him to a secluded suitable place and try to keep the teaching sessions to under 15 minutes or the Lowchen will start to get tired. Just remember when he gets something correct offer him lots of appreciation and a reward treat, just take care not to get him excessively thrilled or he will lose focus.
Teach your Lowchen to offer you his paw
To train your Lowchen to give you his paw, initially get him to sit, then as you say the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and offer him a snack. Now do this again, and after a few practices do not take his paw so quickly. Say the word ‘paw’, count to 1 and only then take it. You must discover that he is bringing his paw up as you state the word. If he doesn’t then return to stating it at the same time. Do it a couple more times then slow your response once again. After two or three sessions most Lowchens pick this trick up rather quickly.
Teach your Lowchen to give you a high five
Like a great deal of tricks the high 5 is a continuation of a basic trick, in this case it’s the paw trick. Hold a treat in your two fingers and raise your hand slightly higher than you would for the paw trick. Your Lowchen will think you desire to perform the paw trick and will reach for the snack with his paw as we taught him in the prior trick. As he reaches up you say “high 5” and give him the treat. Once your Lowchen has actually mastered the paw trick this one will most likely be extremely easy to understand and with just a couple of sessions he will be accomplishing it from your hand signal instead of your voice.
Teach your Lowchen to leap through a hoop
Before you begin this one I would simply like to ask you to be a little practical and not suspend the hoop too high up as you do not really want your Lowchen to harm himself while practicing the trick. Place your Lowchen on 1 side of a hula hoop, get him to pay attention to your hand on the other side of the hoop. Place a treat in your hand and offer the Lowchen the direction to stop sitting. Initially he might attempt to go around or below the hula hoop. When this takes place start again. Your Lowchen wants the treat and will quickly learn that walking around or beneath doesn’t get it so he will soon start going through it. The moment he does, say “hoop” and offer him the treat. He’ll soon be leaping through the hoop on the command of “hoop”. When I started teaching this trick I owned a medium sized dog, so I began with the hoop six inches from the floor and gradually increased it to waist height. If you possess a smaller dog you might desire to start with the hoop touching the ground so he simply goes through the hoop and then gradually raise it more as he gets accustomed to the trick.
I hope you have enjoyed learning these 3 tricks you can teach your Lowchen. Have patience with your Lowchen and most of all, have a good time!
