To teach your Large Munsterlander tricks, even easy ones, you need to get some of his favorite treats, be in a remote suitable place and keep the coaching sessions to 10 – 15 minutes or the Large Munsterlander will start to get bored. Bear in mind when he gets something right give him great deals of praise and a reward snack, however be careful not to get him too fired up or he might lose concentration.
Teach your Large Munsterlander to offer you his paw
To get your Large Munsterlander to offer you his paw, initially get him to sit, then as you say the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and give him a treat. Then do it again, and after a couple of successful tries don’t take his paw so fast. Say the word ‘paw’, count to 1 and then take it. You must see that he is raising his paw up as you state the word. If he doesn’t then return to stating it at the same time. Do it a few more times then slow your response again. After a few sessions most Large Munsterlanders pick this trick up rather quickly.
Teach your Large Munsterlander to give you a high 5
Like a great deal of tricks the high five is a progression of an easier trick, in this case it’s the paw trick. Hold a snack in between your fingers and lift your hand a little higher than you’d raise it for the paw trick. Your Large Munsterlander will assume you wish to perform the paw trick and will grab the treat with his paw as we trained him in the previous trick. Once he reaches up you state “high five” and give him the treat. Once your Large Munsterlander has mastered the paw trick this 1 should be very easy to learn and with just a few sessions he will be accomplishing it on hand signal instead of voice control.
Teach your Large Munsterlander to jump through a hoop
Before you start this 1 I would simply like to ask you to be a little reasonable and not hold the hoop higher than necessary as you do not really want your Large Munsterlander to hurt himself while carrying out the trick. Set your Large Munsterlander to 1 side of a hula hoop, get him to take notice of your hand on the opposite side of the hoop. Place a treat in your hand and offer the Large Munsterlander the direction to stop sitting. Initially he might try to go around or below the hula hoop. If this occurs start once again. Your Large Munsterlander wants the treat and will quickly find out that going around or underneath does not work so he will soon begin going through it. The minute he does, state “hoop” and give him the snack. He will quickly be leaping through the hoop upon the command of “hoop”. When I began doing this trick I had a medium sized dog, so I started with the hoop six inches from the ground and gradually brought it to waist high. In case you have a smaller sized dog you may desire to start with the hoop touching the ground so he simply goes through the hoop and after that gradually elevate it as he gets used to the trick.
I really hope you have enjoyed learning these 3 tricks you can teach your Large Munsterlander. Have patience with your Large Munsterlander and most importantly, have fun!
