To teach your Kerry Beagle tricks, even easy ones, you should carry some tasty treats, teach him in a remote suitable location and manage to keep the learning sessions to under 15 minutes or your Kerry Beagle will begin to get bored. Take note that when he gets something right offer him great deals of praise and a reward snack, just beware not to get him extra ecstatic or he might lose concentration.
Teach your Kerry Beagle to give you his paw
To train your Kerry Beagle to give you his paw, first get him to sit, then as you say the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and give him a treat. After that do it again, and after a few tries do not take his paw so quickly. Say the word ‘paw’, count to 1 and after that take it. You ought to observe that he is bringing his paw up as you say the word. If he doesn’t then go back to saying it at the same time. Do it a few more times then slow your response again. After a few sessions most Kerry Beagles pick this trick up quite quickly.
Teach your Kerry Beagle to give you a high five
Like a great deal of tricks the high five is a progression of an earlier trick, in this case it’s the paw trick. Hold a treat in your fingers and raise your hand just a bit higher than you’d raise it for the paw trick. Your Kerry Beagle will assume you wish to perform the paw trick and will reach for the snack with his paw as we trained him earlier. While he reaches up you say “high 5” and offer your Kerry Beagle the treat. Once your Kerry Beagle has mastered the paw trick this 1 should be very simple to master and with only a few sessions he will be accomplishing it from your hand signal rather than your voice.
Teach your Kerry Beagle to leap through a hoop
Before you begin this one I would simply like to ask you to be a little sensible and not hold the hoop too high as you do not really want your Kerry Beagle to injure himself while performing the trick. Set your Kerry Beagle to 1 side of a hula hoop, get him to take note of your hand on the other side of the hoop. Hold a snack in your hand and offer the Kerry Beagle the command to stop sitting. In the beginning he might try to go around or below the hoop. If this happens begin again. Your Kerry Beagle wants the treat and will soon find out that going around or underneath does not get it so he’ll soon start going through it. As soon as he does, say “hoop” and give him the snack. He will soon be jumping through the hoop on the command of “hoop”. When I first started teaching this trick I had a medium sized dog, so I started with the hoop 6 inches from the ground and slowly brought it to waist height. In the event that you own a smaller dog you may want to begin with the hoop on the floor so he simply goes through the hoop and then slowly raise it once he gets used to the trick.
I really hope you have enjoyed learning these 3 tricks you can teach your Kerry Beagle. Have patience with your Kerry Beagle and above all, have fun!
