To teach your English Foxhound tricks, even the easy ones, you should get some of his favorite treats, teach him in a quiet suitable place and hold the coaching sessions to under 15 minutes or your English Foxhound will start to get tired. Always remember when he gets something correct offer him great deals of praise and a reward treat, but take care not to get him over excited or he will lose concentration.
Teach your English Foxhound to offer you his paw
To train your English Foxhound to offer you his paw, initially get him to sit, then as you state the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and offer him a treat. And then do this again, and after a few times do not take his paw so fast. State the word ‘paw’, count to one and only then take it. You ought to observe that he is raising his paw up as you say the word. If he does not then return to saying it at the exact same time. Do it a couple of more times then slow your reaction once again. After two or three sessions most English Foxhounds pick this trick up rather quickly.
Teach your English Foxhound to give you a high 5
Like a lot of tricks the high 5 is a continuation of an earlier trick, in this case the paw trick. Place a treat in between your fingers and raise your hand a bit higher than you would raise it for the paw trick. Your English Foxhound will believe you desire to do the paw trick and will grab the treat with his paw as we instructed him in the prior trick. As he rises you state “high 5” and give your English Foxhound the treat. Once your English Foxhound has mastered the paw trick this 1 will likely be very easy to understand and with just a few sessions he will be performing it on hand signal rather than vocal commands.
Teach your English Foxhound to jump through a hoop
Before you start this 1 I would simply like to ask you to be a little practical and not suspend the hoop higher than necessary as you do not want your English Foxhound to hurt himself while carrying out the trick. Set your English Foxhound to one side of a hula hoop, get him to pay attention to your hand on the other side of the hoop. Place a treat in your hand and give the English Foxhound the direction to stop sitting. At first he may try to go around or below the hoop. If this occurs start once again. Your English Foxhound desires the snack and will soon find out that going around or under doesn’t work so he’ll soon begin going through it. If he does, state “hoop” and give him the snack. He will quickly be jumping through the hoop on the command of “hoop”. When I initially began teaching this trick I had a medium sized dog, so I began with the hoop six inches from the floor and slowly raised it to waist height. If you possess a smaller dog you might wish to begin with the hoop on the floor so he simply goes through the hoop and then gradually raise it more as he gets accustomed to the trick.
I trust you have enjoyed these 3 tricks you can teach your English Foxhound. Have patience with your English Foxhound and most of all, have a good time!
