To teach your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel tricks, even the simple ones, you should always have some tasty snacks, take him to a remote suitable location and manage to keep the learning sessions to ten to fifteen minutes or your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel will start to get tired. To get your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to give you his paw, initially get him to sit, then as you state the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and give him a treat. After that do it again, and after a few practices do not take his paw so quickly. State the word ‘paw’, count to one and only then take it. You ought to see that he is raising his paw up as you state the word. If he does not then return to saying it at the same time. Do it a couple of more times then slow your reaction once again. After two or three sessions most Cavalier King Charles Spaniels pick this trick up rather quickly.
Teach your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to give you a high five
Like a great deal of tricks the high five is a progression of a simpler trick, and in this case it’s the paw trick. Place a treat in between your two fingers and raise your hand a little higher than you would for the paw trick. Your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel will assume you want to perform the paw trick and will grab for the snack with his paw as we instructed him in the previous trick. Place your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to one side of a hula hoop, get him to take notice of your hand on the opposite side of the hoop. Place a treat in your hand and offer the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel the command to stop sitting. In the beginning he might attempt to go around or underneath the hoop. If this happens begin once again. Your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel desires the snack and will soon discover that walking around or under doesn’t work so he’ll soon start going through it. The moment he does, say “hoop” and give him the treat. He will quickly be leaping through the hoop on the command of “hoop”. When I started doing this trick I had a medium sized dog, so I started with the hoop 6 inches from the ground and gradually brought it to waist high. On the occasion that you have a smaller sized dog you may want to start with the hoop touching the floor so he simply goes through the hoop and then slowly raise it as he gets accustomed to the trick.
