To teach your Berner Laufhund tricks, even easy ones, you should have in hand some of his favorite snacks, take him to a quiet suitable place and try to keep the instruction sessions to 10 – 15 minutes or your Berner Laufhund will begin to get bored. Keep in mind when he gets something right offer him great deals of appreciation and a reward snack, though be cautious not to get him extra excited or he will lose concentration.
Teach your Berner Laufhund to give you his paw
To train your Berner Laufhund to give you his paw, first get him to sit, then as you state the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and offer him a treat. After that do this again, and after a few times do not take his paw so quickly. Say the word ‘paw’, count to one and then after that take it. You need to observe that he is bringing his paw up as you say the word. If he doesn’t then return to saying it at the very same time. Do it a couple more times then slow your response again. After a few sessions most Berner Laufhunds pick this trick up rather easily.
Teach your Berner Laufhund to offer you a high 5
Like a lot of tricks the high 5 is a continuation of a basic trick, and in this case it’s the paw trick. Place a snack in your fingers and lift your hand a little bit higher than you’d raise it for the paw trick. Your Berner Laufhund will assume you desire to perform the paw trick and will grab the treat with his paw as we instructed him in the previous trick. Once he rises you state “high 5” and give your Berner Laufhund the treat. Once your Berner Laufhund has mastered the paw trick this one should be really easy to master and with only a few sessions he will be doing it from your hand signal rather than voice control.
Teach your Berner Laufhund to leap through a hoop
Before you start this 1 I would simply like to ask you to be a little sensible and not suspend the hoop too high as you don’t want your Berner Laufhund to injure himself while carrying out the trick. Set your Berner Laufhund on one side of a hula hoop, get him to take notice of your hand on the other side of the hoop. Place a snack in your hand and give the Berner Laufhund the direction to stop sitting. At first he may attempt to walk around or underneath the hula hoop. In the event that this occurs begin again. Your Berner Laufhund wants the treat and will soon discover that walking around or underneath doesn’t get it so he will soon start going through it. The moment he does, state “hoop” and offer him the treat. He’ll soon be jumping through the hoop on the command of “hoop”. When I initially began teaching this trick I owned a medium sized dog, so I started with the hoop six inches from the ground and slowly lifted it to waist high. In case you have a smaller dog you might wish to start with the hoop touching the ground so he simply goes through the hoop and after that slowly elevate it once he gets used to the trick.
I trust you have enjoyed these 3 tricks you can teach your Berner Laufhund. Have patience with your Berner Laufhund and above all, have fun!
