To teach your American Cocker Spaniel tricks, even easy ones, you should have some good snacks, take him to a quiet suitable place and manage to keep the teaching sessions to ten to fifteen minutes or the American Cocker Spaniel will begin to get tired. Don’t forget that when he gets something right offer him lots of praise and a reward snack, just take care not to get him overly ecstatic or he might lose concentration.
Teach your American Cocker Spaniel to give you his paw
To get your American Cocker Spaniel to give you his paw, initially get him to sit, then as you say the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and give him a treat. Now do it again, and after a couple of times don’t take his paw so quickly. State the word ‘paw’, count to 1 and then take it. You ought to discover that he is raising his paw upward as you state the word. If he doesn’t then go back to stating it at the exact same time. Do it a few more times then slow your reaction again. After 2 or 3 sessions most American Cocker Spaniels pick this trick up quite quickly.
Teach your American Cocker Spaniel to give you a high five
Like a great deal of tricks the high five is a continuation of a basic trick, and in this case it’s the paw trick. Hold a snack in your two fingers and raise your hand somewhat higher than you’d raise it for the paw trick. Your American Cocker Spaniel will presume you desire to do the paw trick and will grab for the snack with his paw as we had taught him in the previous trick. While he reaches up you say “high five” and give your American Cocker Spaniel the snack. When your American Cocker Spaniel has mastered the paw trick this 1 should be very simple to understand and with just a few sessions he will be doing it on hand signal instead of voice control.
Teach your American Cocker Spaniel to jump through a hoop
Before you start this 1 I would simply like to ask you to be a little practical and not suspend the hoop too high up as you don’t really want your American Cocker Spaniel to hurt himself while carrying out the trick. Set your American Cocker Spaniel on 1 side of a hula hoop, get him to take note of your hand on the other side of the hoop. Hold a treat in your hand and offer the American Cocker Spaniel the direction to stop sitting. In the beginning he might attempt to go around or under the hula hoop. If this happens start once again. Your American Cocker Spaniel wants the treat and will soon learn that going around or beneath does not get it done so he’ll quickly start going through it. Once he does, state “hoop” and offer him the snack. He will quickly be leaping through the hoop upon the command of “hoop”. When I started teaching this trick I owned a medium sized dog, so I started with the hoop six inches from the ground and gradually increased it to waist height. In the case that you own a smaller sized dog you may wish to start with the hoop touching the ground so he just goes through the hoop and after that gradually lift it more once he gets accustomed to the trick.
I expect you have enjoyed learning these 3 tricks you can teach your American Cocker Spaniel. Have patience with your American Cocker Spaniel and most importantly, have fun!
