Are you aspiring to teach your Kai Ken to sit? The skill of sitting up is effortlessly taught to compact dogs, yet much larger pooches are another story. It is challenging for them to keep their equilibrium.
Teach Your Kai Ken to Sit: Prep
Sitting up is one of the 1st techniques that should be taught to your Kai Ken and forms the foundation for lots of other techniques. To train a Kai Ken to sit up, prepare some treats as a perk, and put the Kai Ken on her backside in a corner, to ensure that she can’t fall either aft or sideways and has very little or no space to lose balance.
Teach Your Kai Ken to Sit: Acquaint Her With The Command
Prevent her from pitching forward by keeping one hand under her chin and with your other hand hold her snack above your Kai Ken’s nose. Keep saying intelligibly and distinctly, “sit up.” Do not make her sit up too long at any one time, however repeat the instruction routinely and reward her often with a lot of cheers and treats.
Teach Your Kai Ken to Sit: Help Her Maintain Balance
During her initial lesson your Kai Ken will require a lot of support from your hand to keep her from falling forward, but as she gets better control of her muscles and learns what you want, she will count less upon your hand to keep her steady. Gradually, you can give her less help up until you’ll just have to leave one hand in position two or three inches from her neck or chin, to be ready to prevent her from falling forward; eventually you can easily take away your hand altogether and just simply hold the snack right over the height of your Kai Ken’s head.
Teach Your Kai Ken To Sit: Remove the Assistance Slowly
After frequent practice your Kai Ken will stay seated for a long time after you command her. Next she should be set up against your wall, so as to give her assistance for her back only. Soon after she has picked up this and can keep her posture easily, rehearse with her using chair legs, pillows or other items that provide her less and less assistance. Eventually she will get the hang of how to maintain her equilibrium and sit without anything to lean on.
Teach Your Kai Ken to Sit: Putting It All Together
Throughout all this training the words "sit up" will have been ingrained upon her mind by persistent repetition. Lastly is the final lesson to teach your Kai Ken to sit up right after she hears the phrase. There's a great chance, if she has been properly taught, you will merely have to get her out into the room, show to her a treat, hold it up a reasonable distance from the ground, say "sit up" and she'll obey. Then you give her the reward while still in place.
The only requirement for perfection is to train with your Kai Ken multiple times a day until she sits when commanded to and without being shown a treat; give her the rewards only once she has obeyed the command.
Teach Your Kai Ken Other Tricks
You have now the foundation for teaching your Kai Ken many other skills. She can now be taught how to beg by waving your hand up and down in front of her paws, which she'll move in sync with yours. She can also be taught to salute by bringing one paw up to the side of her head, or to keep a toy in her mouth, or to wear a cap on her head or wear other clothing.
When teaching a Kai Ken to tolerate being clothed, do not try to get her to wear too many items simultaneously. Try her at first with just a hat. Once she gets accustomed to that you can put on a jacket and progressively introduce her to more garments.
