Are you working to teach your Jamthund to sit? The skill of sitting up is effortlessly taught to small dogs, though larger canines are a different story. It’s problematic for them to maintain their balance.
Teach Your Jamthund to Sit: Foundation
Sitting is one of the very first skills that should be taught to a Jamthund and forms the foundation for a large number of other techniques. In order to train a Jamthund to sit up, prep some snacks as a perk, and set the Jamthund on her rump in the corner, to make sure that she can not fall either backward or sideways and has very little or no space to stumble.
Teach Your Jamthund to Sit: Familiarize Her With The Sound of The Words
Protect her from pitching towards you by maintaining your hand beneath her chin and using the other hand hold her treat above your Jamthund’s face. Keep repeating distinctly and deliberately, “sit up.” Don’t force her to sit up too long at one time, but do repeat the training often and reward her often with loads of cheers and treats.
Teach Your Jamthund to Sit: Help Her Keep Her Balance
Throughout her beginner lesson your Jamthund will require considerable help from you to stop her from falling forward, but as she gains control of the stabilizing muscles and makes sense of what you want her to do, she will count less and less upon your hand to keep her steady. Then you can gradually give your Jamthund less help til you’ll just have to maintain one hand in position two or three inches from her chin or neck, to be ready to stop her from falling forward; later you can probably withdraw the hand completely and merely hold the snack just over the level of her face.
Teach Your Jamthund To Sit: Remove the Assistance Progressively
With constant practice she will sit up for a long time after you tell her to. The next step is she should be set against the wall, so as to give her a support for her back. When she has soaked up this and can keep her position effortlessly, rehearse with her using chair legs, pillows or other objects that provide her less and less help and support. Sooner or later she will be trained to maintain her equilibrium and sit up in the absence of anything to rest on.
Teach Your Jamthund to Sit: Putting It All Together
During all these lessons the command "sit up" will have been instilled upon her mind by means of persistent repetition. Last here's the final training to teach your Jamthund to sit up immediately after she hears the command. Most likely, if she has been properly trained, you will simply have to summon her out in the room, show her a reward, hold it up a reasonable distance from the floor, say "sit up or sit" and she will obey. Then you give her the snack while still in position.
The only condition for perfection is to train with your Jamthund multiple times daily until she sits on command and without being shown a snack; give her the rewards only once she has adhered to the direction.
Teach Your Jamthund Other Tricks
You have now the technique for teaching your Jamthund many other skills. She can now be taught to beg by waving your hand up and down in front of her paws, which she will move in coordination with yours. She also can be taught to salute by moving one paw up to the side of her head, or to hold something in her mouth, or to wear a hat on her head or wear other clothes.
While teaching a Jamthund to tolerate being clothed, do not try to make her wear too many items at once. Try her at first with a hat. Soon after she becomes used to that you can put on a coat and slowly and gradually introduce her to the other clothing.
