Are you working to teach your Chihuahua to sit? The skill of sitting up is regularly taught to petite dogs, yet much bigger doggies are a different story. It is problematic for them to keep their equilibrium.
Teach Your Chihuahua to Sit: Foundation
Sitting up is one of the 1st tricks that should be taught to your Chihuahua and is the foundation for innumerable other tricks. To train a Chihuahua to sit up, put together some treats as a reward, and set the Chihuahua on her backside in a corner, to make sure that she can’t fall either backward or sideways and has very little or no space to lose balance.
Teach Your Chihuahua to Sit: Acquaint Her With The Phrase
Prevent her from falling forward by keeping 1 hand beneath her chin and with your second hand hold the reward above the Chihuahua’s nose. Keep repeating intelligibly and clearly, “sit.” Do not make her sit up for too long at one time, but repeat the training often and reward her often with loads of adoration and snacks.
Teach Your Chihuahua to Sit: Help Her Balance
During her initial lesson your Chihuahua will call for significant help and support from you to stop her from pitching forward, but as she gains more control of her muscles and grasps what you want, she will rely less on your hand to hold her steady. Gradually, you can give your Chihuahua less help til you will merely have to keep one hand in position two or three inches from her chin or neck, to be available to prevent her from falling forward; later on you can easily take away this hand completely and merely suspend the snack right over the height of your Chihuahua’s face.
Teach Your Chihuahua To Sit: Remove the Help Slowly
After steady practice your Chihuahua will sit up long after you make her. Next she should be set up against your wall, so as to offer her assistance for her back. Soon after she has taken in this and can hold her place effortlessly, practice with her using chair legs, pillows or other items that give her less and less assistance. In the end she will understand how to sustain her stability and sit up without relying on something to rest against.
Teach Your Chihuahua to Sit: Putting It All Together
In the course of all this training the phrase "sit up" will have been instilled upon her mind by persistent repetition. Last here's the final training to teach your Chihuahua to sit up whenever she hears the words. Most likely, if she has been diligently taught, you will simply have to summon her out in the room, show a reward, hold it up a reasonable distance from the floor, say "sit" and she'll do so. Then you'll give her the reward while still in position.
The only requirement for flawlessness is to practice with your Chihuahua multiple times a day until she sits up on command and without being shown a treat; give her the treats only once she has followed the direction.
Teach Your Chihuahua Other Tricks
You have now the technique for teaching your Chihuahua many other skills. She can now learn how to beg by waving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she'll move in rhythm with yours. She can also be taught to salute by moving one paw to the side of her head, or to hold a wooden pipe in her mouth, or to wear a hat on her head or wear other clothes.
While teaching a Chihuahua to submit to being clothed, do not try to get her to wear too many clothes simultaneously. Try her at first with a hat. Only after she gets accustomed to that you could put on a coat and steadily introduce her to more garments.
