Are you aspiring to teach your Beauceron to sit? The talent of sitting up is quite easily taught to small dogs, yet bigger canines are another story. It is hard for them to keep their equilibrium.
Teach Your Beauceron to Sit: Anticipation
Sitting up is one of the very first techniques that you should teach to a Beauceron and forms the groundwork for quite a few other tricks. In order to train a Beauceron to sit up, organize some treats as a perk, and set your Beauceron on her rump in a corner, so that she can not fall either aft or sideways and has very little or no space to lose balance.
Teach Your Beauceron to Sit: Acquaint Her With The Words
Prevent her from tilting to the front by holding your hand on her chin and using the other hand dangle her snack above your Beauceron’s face. Keep repeating distinctly and intelligibly, “sit up.” Do not make her sit up too long at one time, however repeat the training regularly and reward her often with lots of approval and snacks.
Teach Your Beauceron to Sit: Help Her Keep Her Balance
Throughout the initial lesson your Beauceron will need a lot of assistance from your hand to keep her from tumbling forward, but as she gains control of the balancing muscles and is aware of what you want, she will rely less and less upon your hand to hold her steady. Then you can gradually give your Beauceron less support until you will merely have to maintain one hand in position two or three inches from her neck or chin, to be set to prevent her from falling forward; eventually you may withdraw this hand and simply hold the reward right above the level of your Beauceron’s face.
Teach Your Beauceron To Sit: Remove the Aids Slowly And Gradually
With consistent practice your Beauceron will sit up for a good while after you set her up. The next step is she should be set against a wall, so as to give her support for her back. Once she has learned this and can maintain her posture easily, practice with her using chair legs, cushions or other things that offer her less and less aid. In the end she will get the hang of how to sustain her balance and sit without relying on anything to rest against.
Teach Your Beauceron to Sit: Putting It All Together
During all this training the command "sit up" will have been instilled upon her psyche through frequent repetition. Last here's the final training to teach your Beauceron to sit up as quickly as she hears the command. There's a great chance, if she has been diligently trained, you will simply have to summon her out into the room, show her a snack, hold it up a suitable distance from the ground, say "sit up or sit" and she will do so. Then you'll just give her the reward while still in place.
The only condition for flawlessness is to rehearse with your Beauceron several times a day until she sits up when commanded to and without being shown a reward; give her the treats only once she has adhered to the direction.
Teach Your Beauceron Other Tricks
You have now the foundation for teaching your Beauceron many other tricks. She now can learn to beg by waving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she will move in coordination with yours. She also can learn to salute by moving one paw to the side of her head, or to keep an object in her mouth, or to wear a cap on her head or wear other clothes.
When teaching a Beauceron to tolerate being dressed up, do not try to get her to wear too many things simultaneously. Try at first with a cap. After she becomes familiar with that you can put on a jacket and progressively introduce her to the other clothes.
