Gradually, you can give her less help and support till you will just have to keep one hand in position 2 or 3 inches from her neck or chin, to be waiting to prevent her from falling forward; later on you can probably remove your hand and merely dangle the treat just over the height of her head.
Teach Your Swedish Lapphund To Sit: Remove the Assistance Eventually
With consistent practice she will stay seated for a good while after you make her. Afterward she should be set up against your wall, so as to give her a support for her back. Soon after she has gotten the knack of this and can maintain her posture easily, practice with her up against chair legs, cushions or other objects that provide her less and less help. Sooner or later she will figure out how to sustain her balance and sit without needing anything to lean on.
Teach Your Swedish Lapphund to Sit: Putting It All Together
In the course of all this training the phrase "sit up" will have been instilled upon her psyche through persistent repetition. Lastly here's the final lesson to teach your Swedish Lapphund to sit up whenever she hears the command. There's a great chance, if she has been properly trained, you will merely have to call her out into the room, show to her a reward, hold it up a suitable distance from the ground, say "sit up or sit" and she'll do so. Then you'll give her the treat while still in position.
The only necessity for perfection is to rehearse with your Swedish Lapphund multiple times daily until she can sit when told and without being shown a treat; give her the rewards only after she has obeyed the direction.
Teach Your Swedish Lapphund Other Tricks
You have now the method for teaching your Swedish Lapphund many other skills. She can now be taught how to beg by waving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she will move in rhythm with yours. She also can learn to salute by bringing one paw to the side of her head, or to keep an object in her mouth, or to wear a cap on her head or wear other clothing.
In training a Swedish Lapphund to tolerate being clothed, do not try to make her wear too many garments at once. Try her at first with just a cap. Soon after she gets used to that you can put on a jacket and eventually introduce her to more clothes.
