Prevent her from pitching towards you by keeping your hand on her chin and using your other hand hold her treat above her face. Keep repeating intelligibly and clearly, “sit.” Don’t make her sit up for too long at any one time, but do repeat the training often and reward her regularly with lots of kudos and treats.
Teach Your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to Sit: Help Her Stay Balanced
Throughout her first lesson your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel will demand a surprising amount of assistance from you to stop her from falling forward, but as she gets better control of her muscles and comprehends what you want her to do, she’ll count less and less on your hand to hold her in position. Then you can gradually give her less help until you will merely have to maintain one hand in position 2 or 3 inches from her chin or neck, to be ready to prevent her falling forward; eventually you can probably withdraw your hand and simply suspend the snack just over the level of your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel’s head.
Teach Your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel To Sit: Remove the Help Gradually Over Time
After frequent practice your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel will stay seated long after you get her to sit. The next step is she should be set up against your wall, so as to give her assistance for her back only. After she has gotten the knack of this and can keep her posture effortlessly, rehearse with her against chair legs, cushions or other items that offer her less and less help. At some point she will grasp how to sustain her balance and sit up without something to rest against.

During all this training the command "sit up" will have been impressed upon her subconscious with the assistance of constant repetition. Last is the final lesson to teach your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to sit up whenever she hears the phrase. You have now the fundamentals for teaching your Cavalier King Charles Spaniel many other skills. She now can be taught how to beg by waving your hand up and down in front of her paws, which she'll move in coordination with yours. She also can learn to salute by bringing one paw up to the side of her head, or to hold something in her mouth, or to wear a hat on her head or wear other clothing.
While training a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to accept being dressed up, don't try to make her wear too many clothes at the same time. Try her at first with just a cap. After she gets accustomed to that you could put on a jacket and gradually introduce her to the other clothes.
