Are you struggling to teach your Siberian Husky to sit? The technique of sitting up is quite easily taught to small dogs, however much larger pooches are a different story. It is difficult for them to maintain their equilibrium.
Teach Your Siberian Husky to Sit: Anticipation
Sitting is one of the initial skills that you should teach to a Siberian Husky and is the foundation for countless other skills. In order to train a Siberian Husky to sit up, organize some treats as a reward, and place the Siberian Husky on her rump in the corner, so she won’t fall either aft or sideways and has very little or no space to stumble.
Teach Your Siberian Husky to Sit: Acquaint Her With The Sound of The Words
Stop her from pitching towards you by securing one hand underneath her chin and using your other hand hold her treat above the Siberian Husky’s nose. Keep repeating clearly and intelligibly, “sit up.” Do not make her sit too long at any one time, but repeat the lesson routinely and reward her frequently with lots of kudos and snacks.
Teach Your Siberian Husky to Sit: Help Her Keep Her Balance
During the beginner lesson she will need a lot of help from your hand to prevent her from falling forward, but as she gets control of her balancing muscles and finds out what you want, she will depend less upon your hand to keep her in position. Gradually, you can give her less help up until you’ll basically have to leave one hand in position 2 or 3 inches from her neck or chin, to be set to prevent her from falling forward; later you can take away your hand entirely and just simply hold the reward right over the height of her face.
Teach Your Siberian Husky To Sit: Remove the Help Over Time
After consistent training your Siberian Husky will sit up for a long time after you command her. Then she should be set against your wall, so as to give her help for her back only. Once she has gotten the knack of this and can hold her posture easily, rehearse with her using chair legs, pillows or other objects that provide her less and less support. Gradually she will figure out how to sustain her stability and sit up in the absence of something to rest on.
Teach Your Siberian Husky to Sit: Putting It All Together
During all these lessons the phrase "sit up" will have been impressed upon her mind through constant repetition. Now is the final lesson to teach your Siberian Husky to sit up as soon as she hears the words. There's a great chance, if she has been properly trained, you will only have to call her out in the room, show her a reward, hold it up a reasonable distance from the floor, say "sit up" and she will obey. Then give her the reward while still in position.
The only criteria for perfection is to rehearse with her multiple times daily until she sits on command and without being shown a treat; give her the treats only after she has followed the order.
Teach Your Siberian Husky Other Tricks
You have now the foundation for teaching your Siberian Husky many other tricks. She now can be taught how to beg by moving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she will move in conjunction with yours. She also can learn to salute by moving one paw to the side of her head, or to hold a wooden pipe in her mouth, or to wear a cap on her head or wear other articles of clothing.
In teaching a Siberian Husky to accept being clothed, don't try to get her to wear too many things simultaneously. Try at first with just a hat. After she gets accustomed to that you could put on a coat and over time introduce her to more garments.
Take pleasure in "teaching your Siberian Husky the sit up trick" and most importantly have fun along the way!
