Are you aiming to teach your Pachon Navarro to sit? The talent of sitting up is quite easily taught to compact dogs, but much larger dogs are a different story. It is problematic for them to keep their balance.
Teach Your Pachon Navarro to Sit: Preparation
Sitting is one of the fundamental techniques that you should teach to your Pachon Navarro and lays the groundwork for innumerable other tricks. To train a Pachon Navarro to sit up, organize some treats as a reward, and set the Pachon Navarro on her butt in the corner, so she can not fall either aft or sideways and has very little or no space to stumble.
Teach Your Pachon Navarro to Sit: Acquaint Her With The Phrase
Protect her from tilting towards you by maintaining your hand on her chin and using your other hand dangle her treat above the Pachon Navarro’s nose. Keep repeating intelligibly and clearly, “sit.” Don’t force her to sit up too long at one time, but do repeat the instruction often and reward her regularly with lots of recognition and treats.
Teach Your Pachon Navarro to Sit: Help Her Balance
During the initial lesson she will call for a lot of help from you to prevent her from tumbling forward, but as she gains more control of her stabilizing muscles and makes sense of what you want her to do, she will count less and less upon your hand to hold her steady. Then you can gradually give her less assistance til you will just have to leave one hand in position 2 or 3 inches from her chin or neck, to be in place to prevent her from falling forward; later on you can easily remove your hand and simply hold the reward just above the level of her face.
Teach Your Pachon Navarro To Sit: Remove the Aids Incrementally
With regular training your Pachon Navarro will sit up well after you set her up. The next step is she should be set against your wall, so as to offer her a support for her back only. Soon after she has picked up this and can keep her place effortlessly, rehearse with her up against chair legs, cushions or other things that offer her less and less assistance. In the end she will master how to keep her balance and sit up without needing something to rest against.
Teach Your Pachon Navarro to Sit: Putting It All Together
During the course of all this training the words "sit up" will have been instilled upon her subconscious through persistent repetition. Lastly comes the final lesson to teach your Pachon Navarro to sit up right after she hears the command. There's a good chance, if she has been properly taught, you will simply have to call her out into the room, reveal to her a treat, hold it up a reasonable distance from the ground, say "sit up" and she will do so. Then you give her the treat while still in position.
The only criteria for excellence is to rehearse with your Pachon Navarro multiple times daily until she will sit on command and without being shown a treat; give her the snacks only once she has complied with the command.
Teach Your Pachon Navarro Other Tricks
You have now the foundation for teaching your Pachon Navarro many other skills. She can now learn how to beg by moving your hand up and down in front of her paws, which she will move in sync with yours. She can also learn to salute by moving one paw to the side of her head, or to keep an object in her mouth, or to wear a hat on her head or wear other clothes.
When instructing a Pachon Navarro to accept being clothed, do not try to make her wear too many items at the same time. Try at first with a hat. After she gets adjusted to that you could put on a coat and slowly introduce her to the other garments.
