Teach Your Labrador Husky to Sit: Readiness
Sitting up is one of the first skills that you should teach to your Labrador Husky and is the groundwork for quite a few other techniques. To train a Labrador Husky to sit up, prepare some treats as a reward, and place your Labrador Husky on her rump in a corner, to make sure that she can’t fall either aft or sideways and has very little or no space to stumble.
Teach Your Labrador Husky to Sit: Familiarize Her With The Phrase
Protect her from tilting to the front by securing one hand under her chin and with the second hand hold the reward above her face. Keep saying distinctly and deliberately, “sit up.” Don’t make her sit up too long at one time, but repeat the training routinely and reward her regularly with plenty of kudos and snacks.
Teach Your Labrador Husky to Sit: Help Her Maintain Balance
Throughout the initial lesson your Labrador Husky will require a surprising amount of support from you to keep her from falling forward, but as she gains control of the stabilizing muscles and figures out what you want, she’ll depend less upon your hand to keep her steady. Then you can gradually give her less assistance till you’ll just have to leave one hand in position two or three inches from her chin or neck, to be in position to stop her from falling forward; later you will be able to remove your hand completely and simply dangle the reward right above the height of her head.
Teach Your Labrador Husky To Sit: Remove the Help Gradually
After consistent practice she will sit up for a long time after you tell her to. Afterward she should be set against the wall, so as to give her help for her back only. Only after she has soaked up this and can keep her place effortlessly, practice with her against chair legs, pillows or other things that give her less and less help. At some point she will grasp how to sustain her balance and sit without anything to rest against.
Teach Your Labrador Husky to Sit: Putting It All Together
During the course of all these lessons the words "sit up" will have been impressed upon her mind by constant repetition. Now here's the final lesson to teach your Labrador Husky to sit up immediately after she hears the command. Most likely, if she has been carefully taught, you will simply have to call her out into the room, reveal a snack, hold it up a suitable distance from the ground, say "sit" and she will obey. Then just give her the snack while still in position.
The only necessity for flawlessness is to practice with your Labrador Husky several times a day until she sits up when told and without being shown a snack; give her the treats only after she has followed the command.
Teach Your Labrador Husky Other Tricks
You have now the technique for teaching your Labrador Husky many other skills. She now can learn how to beg by waving your hand up and down in front of her paws, which she'll move in rhythm with yours. She also can be taught to salute by bringing one paw up to the side of her head, or to hold an object in her mouth, or to wear a cap on her head or wear other clothes.
When teaching a Labrador Husky to tolerate being clothed, don't try to make her wear too many clothes at one time. Try her at first with a cap. After she gets adjusted to that you can put on a jacket and gradually over time introduce her to the other clothes.
