Are you attempting to teach your Bohemian Shepherd to sit? The technique of sitting up is quickly taught to little dogs, though larger canines are another story. It’s challenging for them to sustain their equilibrium.
Teach Your Bohemian Shepherd to Sit: Foundation
Sitting up is one of the 1st techniques that you should teach to a Bohemian Shepherd and provides the foundation for a lot of other techniques. To train a Bohemian Shepherd to sit up, prepare some snacks as a reward, and place your Bohemian Shepherd on her rump in a corner, to ensure that she is not able to fall either aft or sideways and has very little or no room to stumble.
Teach Your Bohemian Shepherd to Sit: Familiarize Her With The Command
Stop her from pitching to the front by securing your hand beneath her chin and using your other hand hold her treat above your Bohemian Shepherd’s face. Keep saying distinctly and intelligibly, “sit up.” Do not force her to sit up for too long at one time, however repeat the instruction routinely and reward her often with loads of recognition and snacks.
Teach Your Bohemian Shepherd to Sit: Help Her Balance
Throughout her very first lesson she will call for quite a bit of help from you to prevent her from falling forward, but as she gains more control of the balancing muscles and makes sense of what you want, she will rely less and less upon your hand to keep her in position. Gradually, you can give your Bohemian Shepherd less help and support until you’ll merely have to maintain one hand in position 2 or 3 inches from her neck or chin, to be in position to prevent her falling forward; eventually you might withdraw the hand completely and merely hold the treat right over the level of your Bohemian Shepherd’s face.
Teach Your Bohemian Shepherd To Sit: Remove the Help Over Time
After consistent practice your Bohemian Shepherd will sit up well after you command her. Next she should be set up against your wall, so as to provide her a support for her back. Soon after she has mastered this and can keep her posture effortlessly, rehearse with her against chair legs, cushions or other things that offer her less and less support. Eventually she will master how to sustain her equilibrium and sit up without something to lean on.
Teach Your Bohemian Shepherd to Sit: Putting It All Together
Throughout all this training the command "sit up" will have been instilled upon her mind by means of frequent repetition. Lastly is the final training to teach your Bohemian Shepherd to sit up right after she hears the words. Chances are, if she has been properly taught, you will merely have to call her out in the room, reveal a treat, hold it up a reasonable distance from the floor, say "sit up or sit" and she will do so. Then you'll give her the treat while still in position.
The only requirement for perfection is to rehearse with her several times daily until she sits up on command and without being shown a snack; give her the treats only after she has followed the order.
Teach Your Bohemian Shepherd Other Tricks
You have now the basis for teaching your Bohemian Shepherd many other tricks. She now can be taught to beg by moving your hand up and down in front of her paws, which she will move in sync with yours. She also can be taught to salute by bringing one paw to the side of her head, or to keep an object in her mouth, or to wear a hat on her head or wear other clothing.
When training a Bohemian Shepherd to accept being clothed, do not try to make her wear too many garments at the same time. Try her at first with just a hat. Once she becomes familiar with that you can put on a jacket and incrementally introduce her to more garments.
