In her initial lesson your Berger Blanc Suisse will need a lot of assistance from your hand to stop her from pitching forward, but as she gets better control of her balancing muscles and recognizes what you want, she will rely less and less on your hand to hold her in position. Gradually, you can give her less support til you’ll just have to leave one hand in position 2 or 3 inches from her chin or neck, to be in place to stop her from falling forward; in the future you will be able to withdraw this hand completely and merely suspend the treat just above the level of her head.

With regular practice your Berger Blanc Suisse will sit up for a long time after you set her up. Then she should be set against your wall, so as to provide her assistance for her back only. Soon after she has gotten the knack of this and can keep her posture easily, practice with her against chair legs, cushions or other items that offer her less and less assistance. Sooner or later she will be trained to keep her balance and sit up without relying on something to rest against.

During the course of all these lessons the words "sit up" will have been ingrained upon her mind by means of persistent repetition. Now is the final lesson to teach your Berger Blanc Suisse to sit up as soon as she hears the command. There's a great chance, if she has been carefully trained, you will merely have to get her out in the room, reveal to her a treat, hold it up a reasonable distance from the ground, say "sit up" and she will obey. Then give her the reward while still in place.
The only necessity for excellence is to train with your Berger Blanc Suisse several times daily until she will sit when commanded to and without being shown a reward; give her the treats only once she has followed the direction.
Teach Your Berger Blanc Suisse Other Tricks
You have now the fundamentals for teaching your Berger Blanc Suisse many other tricks. She now can learn how to beg by moving your hand up and down in front of her paws, which she'll move in rhythm with yours. She also can learn to salute by bringing one paw to the side of her head, or to hold a wooden pipe in her mouth, or to wear a hat on her head or wear other clothing.
