To teach your Wire Fox Terrier tricks, even simple ones, you need to have some delicious treats, go to a quiet suitable location and keep the training sessions to under fifteen minutes or your Wire Fox Terrier will start to get bored. Remember when he gets something correct give him great deals of appreciation and a reward snack, though be careful not to get him excessively ecstatic or he will lose focus.
Teach your Wire Fox Terrier to offer you his paw
To get your Wire Fox Terrier to give you his paw, first get him to sit, then as you state the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and offer him a treat. After that do this again, and after a couple of times don’t take his paw so fast. Say the word ‘paw’, count to one and then after that take it. You ought to notice that he is raising his paw upward as you state the word. If he does not then return to saying it at the exact same time. Do it a couple more times then slow your reaction once again. After a few sessions most Wire Fox Terriers pick this trick up rather easily.
Teach your Wire Fox Terrier to give you a high 5
Like a great deal of tricks the high five is a continuation of an earlier trick, and in this case it’s the paw trick. Hold a snack in your fingers and raise your hand slightly higher than you would raise it for the paw trick. Your Wire Fox Terrier will assume you wish to do the paw trick and will reach for the treat with his paw as we instructed him in the previous trick. As he rises you say “high 5” and give your Wire Fox Terrier the treat. When your Wire Fox Terrier has mastered the paw trick this one should be very easy to understand and with only a couple of sessions he will be accomplishing it on hand signal rather than voice control.
Teach your Wire Fox Terrier to jump through a hoop
Before you begin this one I would just like to ask you to be a little practical and not hold the hoop higher than necessary as you don’t really want your Wire Fox Terrier to hurt himself while practicing the trick. Set your Wire Fox Terrier to one side of a hula hoop, get him to take note of your hand on the other side of the hoop. Place a snack in your hand and give the Wire Fox Terrier the command to stop sitting. In the beginning he might attempt to go around or beneath the hoop. If this takes place begin again. Your Wire Fox Terrier desires the treat and will quickly discover that going around or below doesn’t get it so he will soon start going through it. Whenever he does, say “hoop” and give him the treat. He’ll quickly be leaping through the hoop on the command of “hoop”. When I initially started doing this trick I had a medium sized dog, so I began with the hoop 6 inches from the floor and slowly increased it to waist high. In case you have a smaller sized dog you might wish to begin with the hoop on the floor so he just goes through the hoop and then gradually raise it as he gets used to the trick.
I trust you have enjoyed learning these 3 tricks you can teach your Wire Fox Terrier. Have patience with your Wire Fox Terrier and most of all, have fun!
