To teach your Weimaraner tricks, even the simple ones, you need to have some of his favorite treats, go to a quiet suitable place and manage to keep the training sessions to 10 – 15 minutes or the Weimaraner will start to get bored. Always remember when he gets something right offer him lots of appreciation and a reward snack, just take care not to get him overly thrilled or he might lose concentration.
Teach your Weimaraner to offer you his paw
To teach your Weimaraner to offer you his paw, first get him to sit, then as you say the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and offer him a snack. After that do this again, and after a few times don’t take his paw so quickly. Say the word ‘paw’, count to 1 and after that take it. You ought to discover that he is bringing his paw upward as you state the word. If he does not then return to stating it at the very same time. Do it a couple more times then slow your reaction again. After a couple of sessions most Weimaraners pick this trick up rather easily.

Before you start this one I would just like to ask you to be a little practical and not suspend the hoop too high up as you don’t want your Weimaraner to hurt himself while performing the trick. Place your Weimaraner to one side of a hula hoop, get him to take note of your hand on the other side of the hoop. Hold a snack in your hand and offer the Weimaraner the command to stop sitting. In the beginning he may attempt to go around or under the hoop. When this happens start once again. Your Weimaraner desires the treat and will quickly discover that walking around or beneath doesn’t get it so he will soon begin going through it. The minute he does, say “hoop” and give him the treat. He’ll quickly be jumping through the hoop on the command of “hoop”. When I started off doing this trick I had a medium sized dog, so I began with the hoop 6 inches from the ground and slowly lifted it to waist high. In case you have a smaller dog you may want to begin with the hoop touching the ground so he just goes through the hoop and after that gradually lift it once he gets used to the trick.
