To teach your Rajapalayam tricks, even simple ones, you need to get some tasty snacks, take him to a quiet suitable location and hold the teaching sessions to under 15 minutes or your Rajapalayam will begin to get tired. Bear in mind when he gets something correct give him lots of praise and a reward treat, just take care not to get him excessively ecstatic or he will lose focus.
Teach your Rajapalayam to offer you his paw
To train your Rajapalayam to give you his paw, first get him to sit, then as you say the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and offer him a snack. Now repeat this, and after a few successful tries don’t take his paw so quickly. Say the word ‘paw’, count to 1 and then after that take it. You need to notice that he is raising his paw upward as you say the word. If he doesn’t then return to saying it at the very same time. Do it a couple of more times then slow your reaction again. After a few sessions most Rajapalayams pick this trick up quite easily.
Teach your Rajapalayam to offer you a high 5
Like a great deal of tricks the high five is a continuation of a basic trick, and in this case it’s the paw trick. Hold a snack in your two fingers and raise your hand just a bit higher than you’d do for the paw trick. Your Rajapalayam will think you wish to do the paw trick and will grab for the snack with his paw as we had taught him previously. While he rises you say “high five” and offer your Rajapalayam the treat. As soon as your Rajapalayam has actually mastered the paw trick this one will likely be extremely easy to master and with just a few sessions he will be doing it on hand signal rather than from your voice.
Teach your Rajapalayam to leap through a hoop
Before you start this one I would simply like to ask you to be a little reasonable and not hold the hoop higher than necessary as you don’t really want your Rajapalayam to harm himself while carrying out the trick. Set your Rajapalayam on one side of a hula hoop, get him to focus on your hand on the opposite side of the hoop. Place a treat in your hand and offer the Rajapalayam the direction to stop sitting. At first he may attempt to walk around or below the hula hoop. When this takes place begin once again. Your Rajapalayam desires the snack and will quickly learn that going around or beneath does not get it so he will soon begin going through it. Once he does, say “hoop” and give him the treat. He will quickly be jumping through the hoop on the command of “hoop”. When I initially began doing this trick I owned a medium sized dog, so I started with the hoop 6 inches from the ground and gradually lifted it to waist height. In case you have a smaller sized dog you might wish to start with the hoop touching the ground so he just goes through the hoop and then slowly lift it once he gets used to the trick.
I really hope you have enjoyed learning these 3 tricks you can teach your Rajapalayam. Have patience with your Rajapalayam and most importantly, have a good time!
