To teach your Landseer tricks, even easy ones, you need to have some of his favorite snacks, be in a remote suitable place and hold the instruction sessions to under fifteen minutes or your Landseer will begin to get bored. Keep in mind when he gets something right give him lots of appreciation and a reward snack, just be mindful not to get him excessively excited or he will lose focus.
Teach your Landseer to give you his paw
To teach your Landseer to offer you his paw, first get him to sit, then as you say the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and offer him a snack. After that repeat this, and after a couple of times do not take his paw so quickly. State the word ‘paw’, count to one and after that take it. You ought to see that he is raising his paw upward as you state the word. If he does not then return to saying it at the exact same time. Do it a few more times then slow your response once again. After 2 or 3 sessions most Landseers pick this trick up rather quickly.
Teach your Landseer to give you a high five
Like a great deal of tricks the high five is a continuation of a basic trick, and in this case it’s the paw trick. Hold a treat in your two fingers and lift your hand somewhat higher than you’d raise it for the paw trick. Your Landseer will assume you want to perform the paw trick and will grab the snack with his paw as we trained him in the previous trick. As he rises you say “high five” and give your Landseer the treat. When your Landseer has actually mastered the paw trick this 1 should be extremely easy to understand and with only a couple of sessions he will be doing it on hand signal rather than from your voice.
Teach your Landseer to jump through a hoop
Before you begin this 1 I would simply like to ask you to be a little sensible and not hold the hoop too high up as you don’t want your Landseer to harm himself while performing the trick. Place your Landseer to 1 side of a hula hoop, get him to take notice of your hand on the opposite side of the hoop. Hold a snack in your hand and give the Landseer the direction to stop sitting. At first he may attempt to go around or below the hula hoop. In the event that this happens start again. Your Landseer wants the snack and will soon learn that walking around or under does not get it done so he’ll quickly start going through it. When he does, say “hoop” and offer him the snack. He’ll quickly be jumping through the hoop upon the command of “hoop”. When I began teaching this trick I had a medium sized dog, so I started with the hoop six inches from the ground and gradually increased it to waist height. In the case that you have a smaller dog you might desire to begin with the hoop on the floor so he just goes through the hoop and then slowly raise it as he gets accustomed to the trick.
I hope you have enjoyed learning these 3 tricks you can teach your Landseer. Have patience with your Landseer and most of all, have a good time!
