To teach your French Brittany tricks, even the easy ones, you need to provide some yummy snacks, teach him in a quiet suitable location and try to keep the instruction sessions to 10 – 15 minutes or your French Brittany will start to get bored. Always remember when he gets something correct offer him lots of praise and a reward snack, yet beware not to get him overly excited or he might lose concentration.
Teach your French Brittany to give you his paw
To get your French Brittany to offer you his paw, first get him to sit, then as you state the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and give him a treat. Next do it again, and after a couple of tries do not take his paw so quickly. Say the word ‘paw’, count to one and then after that take it. You must notice that he is bringing his paw up as you say the word. If he doesn’t then go back to stating it at the very same time. Do it a few more times then slow your reaction again. After two or three sessions most French Brittanys pick this trick up quite quickly.
Teach your French Brittany to offer you a high 5
Like a lot of tricks the high 5 is a progression of a simpler trick, in this case it’s the paw trick. Place a treat in your fingers and lift your hand just a little higher than you would raise it for the paw trick. Your French Brittany will assume you wish to do the paw trick and will grab for the snack with his paw as we trained him in the prior trick. While he rises you say “high five” and offer him the treat. Once your French Brittany has mastered the paw trick this 1 will most likely be really easy to master and with only a couple of sessions he will be accomplishing it on hand signal rather than voice control.
Teach your French Brittany to jump through a hoop
Before you begin this 1 I would simply like to ask you to be a little sensible and not hold the hoop higher than necessary as you don’t want your French Brittany to injure himself while carrying out the trick. Set your French Brittany on 1 side of a hula hoop, get him to focus on your hand on the opposite side of the hoop. Hold a treat in your hand and give the French Brittany the command to stop sitting. Initially he might attempt to walk around or below the hoop. If this occurs start once again. Your French Brittany wants the treat and will quickly learn that going around or beneath doesn’t get it done so he will soon begin going through it. Whenever he does, say “hoop” and offer him the treat. He will quickly be leaping through the hoop upon the command of “hoop”. When I initially began doing this trick I owned a medium sized dog, so I started with the hoop 6 inches from the ground and slowly brought it to waist height.
