To teach your Dalmatian tricks, even easy ones, you need to get hold of some savory treats, be in a remote suitable location and keep the coaching sessions to under fifteen minutes or your Dalmatian will begin to get bored. Remember when he gets something right give him lots of appreciation and a reward treat, just beware not to get him extremely thrilled or he might possibly lose concentration.
Teach your Dalmatian to offer you his paw
To train your Dalmatian to offer you his paw, first get him to sit, then as you state the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and offer him a treat. Then do this again, and after a couple of successful tries do not take his paw so quickly. State the word ‘paw’, count to 1 and then take it. You need to discover that he is bringing his paw upward as you say the word. If he doesn’t then return to saying it at the same time. Do it a few more times then slow your response once again. After two or three sessions most Dalmatians pick this trick up quite quickly.
Teach your Dalmatian to offer you a high 5
Like a lot of tricks the high 5 is a continuation of an earlier trick, and in this case the paw trick. Hold a snack in between your fingers and raise your hand a bit higher than you would raise it for the paw trick. Your Dalmatian will expect you wish to perform the paw trick and will reach for the treat with his paw as we instructed him earlier. As he rises you state “high 5” and offer your Dalmatian the treat. As soon as your Dalmatian has mastered the paw trick this 1 will probably be very easy to understand and with just a couple of sessions he will be doing it on hand signal rather than from your voice.
Teach your Dalmatian to jump through a hoop
Before you start this 1 I would simply like to ask you to be a little reasonable and not hold the hoop higher than necessary as you do not really want your Dalmatian to harm himself while performing the trick. Set your Dalmatian to one side of a hula hoop, get him to take note of your hand on the other side of the hoop. Place a treat in your hand and offer the Dalmatian the direction to stop sitting. At first he might attempt to go around or underneath the hula hoop. When this occurs begin once again. Your Dalmatian wants the treat and will quickly discover that going around or under doesn’t get it done so he’ll quickly start going through it. The moment he does, say “hoop” and give him the snack. He will quickly be leaping through the hoop upon the command of “hoop”. When I first started doing this trick I had a medium sized dog, so I began with the hoop 6 inches from the ground and slowly increased it to waist high. In the case that you possess a smaller dog you might desire to start with the hoop touching the ground so he simply goes through the hoop and then slowly lift it more once he gets used to the trick.
