To teach your Braque Du Puy tricks, even easy ones, you need to get some tasty snacks, go to a quiet suitable place and always keep the teaching sessions to under 15 minutes or your Braque Du Puy will begin to get tired. Bear in mind when he gets something correct give him great deals of appreciation and a reward snack, just beware not to get him too excited or he may lose focus.
Teach your Braque Du Puy to give you his paw
To get your Braque Du Puy to offer you his paw, first get him to sit, then as you say the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and give him a snack. After that repeat this, and after a couple of times do not take his paw so fast. State the word ‘paw’, count to one and then take it. You should observe that he is raising his paw upward as you state the word. If he does not then return to saying it at the exact same time. Do it a couple more times then slow your reaction once again. After a couple of sessions most Braque Du Puys pick this trick up rather quickly.
Teach your Braque Du Puy to give you a high five
Like a lot of tricks the high 5 is a continuation of a simpler trick, and in this case it’s the paw trick. Place a treat in between your two fingers and raise your hand slightly higher than you’d raise it for the paw trick. Your Braque Du Puy will assume you wish to perform the paw trick and will grab for the treat with his paw as we taught him in the prior trick. As he reaches up you say “high five” and offer him the treat. As soon as your Braque Du Puy has mastered the paw trick this 1 should be extremely simple to understand and with only a few sessions he will be accomplishing it on hand signal instead of vocal commands.
Teach your Braque Du Puy to jump through a hoop
Before you start this 1 I would simply like to ask you to be a little reasonable and not suspend the hoop higher than necessary as you do not want your Braque Du Puy to hurt himself while performing the trick. Set your Braque Du Puy on 1 side of a hula hoop, get him to take note of your hand on the other side of the hoop. Hold a treat in your hand and offer the Braque Du Puy the direction to stop sitting. In the beginning he may try to walk around or below the hula hoop. If this happens begin again. Your Braque Du Puy desires the treat and will quickly find out that walking around or below doesn’t get it done so he’ll quickly start going through it. As soon as he does, state “hoop” and give him the snack. He will soon be jumping through the hoop upon the command of “hoop”. When I first began teaching this trick I owned a medium sized dog, so I started with the hoop six inches from the floor and slowly increased it to waist height. In the case that you own a smaller dog you may wish to begin with the hoop on the ground so he simply goes through the hoop and then slowly lift it once he gets accustomed to the trick.
I trust you have enjoyed these 3 tricks you can teach your Braque Du Puy. Have patience with your Braque Du Puy and above all, have fun!
