To teach your American Bulldog tricks, even the simple ones, you need to provide some small snacks, take him to a remote suitable place and keep the training sessions to ten to fifteen minutes or your American Bulldog will begin to get bored. Just remember when he gets something correct give him lots of appreciation and a reward treat, just take care not to get him over excited or he will lose concentration.
Teach your American Bulldog to give you his paw
To train your American Bulldog to offer you his paw, initially get him to sit, then as you say the word ‘paw’ take his paw in your hand and offer him a treat. After that repeat this, and after a few practices don’t take his paw so fast. State the word ‘paw’, count to one and then take it. You must observe that he is bringing his paw upward as you say the word. If he does not then return to stating it at the very same time. Do it a couple of more times then slow your response again. After a few sessions most American Bulldogs pick this trick up rather easily.
Teach your American Bulldog to give you a high five
Like a great deal of tricks the high 5 is a continuation of a basic trick, in this case the paw trick. Hold a snack in your fingers and raise your hand slightly higher than you would raise it for the paw trick. Your American Bulldog will expect you desire to perform the paw trick and will grab the snack with his paw as we instructed him in the previous trick. Once he reaches up you state “high 5” and offer him the treat. Once your American Bulldog has actually mastered the paw trick this one will probably be very easy to understand and with only a couple of sessions he will be doing it from your hand signal instead of vocal commands.
Teach your American Bulldog to jump through a hoop
Before you start this 1 I would simply like to ask you to be a little practical and not hold the hoop too high as you do not really want your American Bulldog to harm himself while doing the trick. Set your American Bulldog to 1 side of a hula hoop, get him to take notice of your hand on the other side of the hoop. Hold a treat in your hand and give the American Bulldog the direction to stop sitting. At first he might try to go around or beneath the hoop. When this takes place start once again. Your American Bulldog desires the snack and will quickly discover that walking around or underneath does not get it done so he will quickly begin going through it. Once he does, say “hoop” and offer him the treat. He’ll soon be jumping through the hoop on the command of “hoop”. When I first started doing this trick I had a medium sized dog, so I started with the hoop six inches from the ground and gradually lifted it to waist high. In case you have a smaller dog you might desire to start with the hoop on the ground so he simply goes through the hoop and then slowly elevate it as he gets accustomed to the trick.
I hope you have enjoyed these 3 tricks you can teach your American Bulldog. Have patience with your American Bulldog and above all, have a good time!
