We all dream of training the perfect Pyrenean Shepherd, a pup that is a CGC or canine good citizen and is well behaved and reliable at all times. Well dreams really do come true when the teaching is performed with kindness and commitment. Remember pups learn from the first day and want to be informed what is correct, what isn’t, and effective socialization.
Pups act like children, they are in need of continuous supervision and instruction. Training a pup need not be a challenge, all you have to bear in mind are a few basic rules:
10 Tips For Training Your Pyrenean Shepherd
- Till your pup learns, you must keep an eye on him at all times. When you aren’t able to then you will need to crate him. Create a plan for the pup, that will serve to help her to settle very quickly. The calendar should include things such as regular potty visits, eating times, break times, walks, play time, training, et cetera. A pup that has a hectic day has no time for being bored or misbehave.
- Train the pup to respect you. Pyrenean Shepherds live in packs and naturally comply with a leader. When you establish your leadership in no uncertain terms then coaching will come to be easy because the pup will comply with you at all times and not defy your authority.
- Utilize only encouraging training tactics. Do not ever scream at, strike, or abuse your Pyrenean Shepherd. It is not just unkind but can easily bring about behavioral challenges. Using electrical shocks, prong collars, sprays, et cetera can hurt the animal.
- Teach the pup “nothing in this life is without cost.” This is a mantra that is commonly acknowledged as a valuable training tool. If you apply this, the pup will find out that to experience anything like love, a stroll, or treat, he must behave well.
- Present the meaning of “No,” from day one. Do not endorse behaviors such as jumping, yelping, tug-o-war, yapping, or escaping open gates and doors. Commend courtesy and dismiss or walk away when there is bad conduct. The pup will discover that if he acts up he will lose his companion/playmate.
- To fix a habit you have to catch the Pyrenean Shepherd in the act and surprise him by shaking a container of rocks. As soon as you have done this make him improve his behavior and immediately give him a treat and approval. Pyrenean Shepherds do not recollect what occurred previously so scolding him after an occurrence is useless.
- Be sure to call/use his name positively. Do not say “Bad TOM,” or “No Tom,” this will trigger mental confusion and the Pyrenean Shepherd will think that if you call his name then it is something negative. The dog needs to relate his name with pleasant times like hugs, petting, strolls, treats, and such. If this occurs he will respond willingly if you call his name.
- Develop a training regimen that is short and sweet, about 10 minutes thrice a day. Extensive repetitive lessons can be boring and the Pyrenean Shepherd is going to lose interest in the learning session. Make learning cool and use trick training to demonstrate commands like sit, down, come and so on.
- Connect with the Pyrenean Shepherd and both of you will like your sessions. The pup should expect hanging out with you and not keep away from you by breaking away or taking cover. Make sure to socialize the doggie early. Socialization is one of the most important lessons. The Pyrenean Shepherd will need to master how to be with various other animals, people, sounds, vehicles, and other activities. Therefore, gradually introduce the pup when he is little to everyday endeavors and sounds. Take him to the store/ playground, introduce him to children and other pets, and make him unafraid of the vacuum cleaner and garden hose.
- Discover all about potty training, leash walking, house breaking, in addition to food training. These are kindergarten lessons that every Pyrenean Shepherd puppy has to understand. Understand all the mannerisms as well as peculiarities of the breed. This will give you valuable insights on how to properly instruct the puppy dog.
As a Pyrenean Shepherd parent you have a lot of choices. You could possibly choose to train the Pyrenean Shepherd on your own or sign up at a high quality training school. Training a Pyrenean Shepherd has several phases: preschool, behavior training, doggy sports, showing and conformation, in addition to other aspects like therapy dogs, hearing dogs, etc. What standard you choose to coach depends on you along with the brainpower of your Pyrenean Shepherd. As you realize, various dogs, like people, have varied talents. Choose wisely and both you and your Pyrenean Shepherd pup will have enjoyable times together.
