In order to train a English Water Spaniel to sit up, prep some treats as a perk, and set the English Water Spaniel on her butt in the corner, to ensure she can’t fall either backward or sideways and has very little or no room to lose balance.

Stop her from tilting towards you by holding your hand beneath her chin and using the second hand dangle her treat above her face. Keep saying deliberately and clearly, “sit.” Do not make her sit for too long at any one time, but do repeat the instruction frequently and reward her frequently with loads of cheers and snacks.
Teach Your English Water Spaniel to Sit: Help Her Keep Her Balance
In her initial lesson she will demand a surprising amount of support from you to keep her from tumbling forward, but as she gets more control of her stabilizing muscles and figures out what you want, she will count less upon your hand to keep her steady. Gradually, you can give your English Water Spaniel less help and support until you’ll just have to keep one hand in position 2 or 3 inches from her neck or chin, to be set to stop her from falling forward; later on you can easily withdraw the hand entirely and merely hold the snack right above the level of your English Water Spaniel’s face.
Teach Your English Water Spaniel To Sit: Remove the Aids Slowly
With consistent training your English Water Spaniel will stay seated well after you command her. Next she should be set up against your wall, so as to give her assistance for her back. Only after she has mastered this and can keep her position effortlessly, practice with her using chair legs, pillows or other objects that give her less and less help and support. In time she will be trained to maintain her stability and sit without needing something to lean on.

Throughout all this training the phrase "sit up" will have been ingrained upon her subconscious with the assistance of persistent repetition. Last is the final lesson to teach your English Water Spaniel to sit up as soon as she hears the command. There's a good chance, if she has been diligently taught, you will simply have to get her out in the room, display to her a snack, hold it up a reasonable distance from the floor, say "sit" and she will do so. She can now learn how to beg by moving your hand up and down just in front of her paws, which she will move in rhythm with yours. She can also be taught to salute by moving one paw up to the side of her head, or to hold an object in her mouth, or to wear a cap on her head or wear other clothes.
While training a English Water Spaniel to submit to being clothed, do not try to get her to wear too many clothes at the same time. Try at first with just a hat. Soon after she gets accustomed to that you can put on a jacket and eventually introduce her to the other garments.
