Are you aiming to teach your Burgos Pointer to sit? The technique of sitting up is effortlessly taught to pocket-sized dogs, but bigger canines are a different story. It’s challenging for them to keep their equilibrium.
Teach Your Burgos Pointer to Sit: Planning
Sitting up is one of the 1st tricks that you should teach to your Burgos Pointer and is the ground work for a number of other tricks. To train a Burgos Pointer to sit up, put together some snacks as a perk, and put your Burgos Pointer on her haunches in the corner, to ensure that she can not fall either aft or sideways and has very little or no room to lose balance.
Teach Your Burgos Pointer to Sit: Familiarize Her With The Command
Keep her from pitching to the front by holding your hand under her chin and using your second hand dangle the snack above your Burgos Pointer’s nose. Keep saying intelligibly and clearly, “sit up.” Do not make her sit too long at one time, but repeat the instruction routinely and reward her often with a lot of kudos and snacks.
Teach Your Burgos Pointer to Sit: Help Her Balance
In the initial lesson she will demand considerable help from you to keep her from tumbling forward, but as she gets control of the stabilizing muscles and makes sense of what you want her to do, she’ll count less upon your hand to hold her steady. Gradually, you can give your Burgos Pointer less assistance until you will only have to keep one hand in position 2 or 3 inches from her neck or chin, to be available to stop her falling forward; eventually you can probably withdraw this hand and just simply suspend the snack just above the height of her face.
Teach Your Burgos Pointer To Sit: Remove the Help Progressively
With consistent training she will sit up well after you tell her to. Next she should be set up against your wall, so as to offer her assistance for her back. Soon after she has gotten the knack of this and can maintain her position easily, practice with her using chair legs, pillows or other objects that give her less and less support. In time she will understand how to preserve her stability and sit without relying on something to rest on.
Teach Your Burgos Pointer to Sit: Putting It All Together
During all this training the words "sit up" will have been impressed upon her subconscious by means of constant repetition. Now is the final lesson to teach your Burgos Pointer to sit up immediately after she hears the words. Chances are, if she has been carefully trained, you will only have to get her out into the room, show her a snack, hold it up a suitable distance from the ground, say "sit up" and she will obey. Then you'll give her the treat while still in position.
The only criteria for excellence is to train with your Burgos Pointer multiple times a day until she will sit on command and without being shown a snack; give her the treats only once she has obeyed the direction.
Teach Your Burgos Pointer Other Tricks
You have now the technique for teaching your Burgos Pointer many other tricks. She can now be taught how to beg by waving your hand up and down in front of her paws, which she'll move in rhythm with yours. She also can learn to salute by bringing one paw up to the side of her head, or to keep an object in her mouth, or to wear a cap on her head or wear other clothing.
When instructing a Burgos Pointer to tolerate being dressed up, do not try to get her to wear too many garments at one time. Try her at first with just a hat. After she gets accustomed to that you can put on a jacket and steadily introduce her to more clothes.
Appreciate "teaching your Burgos Pointer the sit up trick" and most importantly have fun at the same time!
