Teach Your Boston Terrier to Sit

Are you aiming to teach your Boston Terrier to sit? The technique of sitting up is effortlessly taught to little dogs, though much larger pet dogs are another story. It’s difficult for them to maintain their equilibrium.

Teach Your Boston Terrier to Sit: Prep work

Sitting up is one of the 1st techniques that should be taught to your Boston Terrier and lays the foundation for several other techniques. In order to train a Boston Terrier to sit up, put together some treats as a reward, and put your Boston Terrier on her backside in a corner, to make sure that she can’t fall either backward or sideways and has very little or no space to lose balance.

Teach Your Boston Terrier to Sit: Acquaint Her With The Phrase

Stop her from pitching towards you by securing one hand beneath her chin and using the second hand hold her snack above your Boston Terrier’s nose. Keep saying clearly and intelligibly, “sit.” Do not force her to sit up too long at one time, but repeat the training often and reward her frequently with a lot of adoration and snacks.

Teach Your Boston Terrier to Sit: Help Her Keep Her Balance

In the initial lesson she will need considerable assistance from you to keep her from pitching forward, but as she gets control of the muscles and realizes what you want her to do, she’ll count less upon your hand to hold her steady. Gradually, you can give her less support until you will only have to keep one hand in position 2 or 3 inches from her chin or neck, to be set to prevent her falling forward; later you will be able to take away your hand altogether and just dangle the snack just over the height of your Boston Terrier’s head.

Teach Your Boston Terrier To Sit: Remove the Help Progressively

After consistent training she will stay seated for a long time after you command her. The next step is she should be set up against the wall, so as to provide her a support for her back. Once she has learned this and can keep her position effortlessly, practice with her against chair legs, pillows or other things that provide her less and less aid. Gradually she will get the hang of how to sustain her equilibrium and sit up without something to lean against.

Teach Your Boston Terrier to Sit: Putting It All Together

In the course of all this training the words "sit up" will have been ingrained upon her mind with the assistance of frequent repetition. Last comes the final training to teach your Boston Terrier to sit up as quickly as she hears the phrase. There's a good chance, if she has been properly taught, you will simply have to get her out in the room, show a treat, hold it up a reasonable distance from the floor, say "sit up or sit" and she will obey. Then you'll give her the snack while still in position.

The only prerequisite for excellence is to practice with her multiple times a day until she sits up when told and without being shown a snack; give her the rewards only after she has obeyed the order.

Teach Your Boston Terrier Other Tricks

You have now the groundwork for teaching your Boston Terrier many other tricks. She can now learn to beg by moving your hand up and down in front of her paws, which she'll move in coordination with yours. She can also learn to salute by moving one paw to the side of her head, or to hold a toy in her mouth, or to wear a hat on her head or wear other clothes.

While teaching a Boston Terrier to accept being clothed, do not try to make her wear too many clothes at once. Try her at first with just a cap. Only after she becomes familiar with that you could put on a jacket and incrementally introduce her to the other clothing.

Take joy in "teaching your Boston Terrier the sit up trick" and most importantly have fun along the way!
