How to Teach the South Russian Ovcharka jumping: Start with Four

You can teach your South Russian Ovcharka a multitude of skills, drills, and exercises with four jumps. 4 jumps will allow you to develop on a short jump chute or jump grid. You can position a “box” with your jumps and work on handling, collection, and 270 degree jumps. You can teach your South Russian Ovcharka jumping left and right. You can be out of the box and send your South Russian Ovcharka or you can handle from within the box. Your jumps could be positioned in a lateral line, so you can practice threadles and serpentines.

Teach Your South Russian Ovcharka Eight Jumps

Go to the next step and get 8 jumps. Now you can position two boxes with 1 introductory jump. You’ve now multiplied your drills that you can work on with your South Russian Ovcharka. Your jump grids can be of suggested size and number of jumps. You can also setup the jumps in a circle with the jump bars perpendicular to the circle or on the circumference of the circle. This setup also enables you to train a variety of drills.

Teaching the South Russian Ovcharka Double and Triple Jumps

Your next step is a double jump and a triple jump. You can chain 2 or three single jumps together to make your expanded jump, but having double and triple jumps in your course work is really valuable to practice. We’ve seen many South Russian Ovcharkas run a perfect course and the final obstacle is a triple and the South Russian Ovcharka is not equipped for it, and bang, down comes the bar.
