This blog is concerning how to teach a Chinese Chongqing Dog jumping for agility. We are often asked, “How many jumps is best to start with?” You can’t ever have enough single jumps to practice agility. One good starting point is four jumps. This is the minimum quantity of jumps that we recommend.
How to Teach the Chinese Chongqing Dog to jump: Begin with Four
You can teach a Chinese Chongqing Dog a variety of drills, skills, and exercises with four jumps. Four jumps will allow you to develop on a short jump chute or jump grid. You can practice on a “box” with your jumps and practice handling, collection, and 270 degree jumps. You can teach your Chinese Chongqing Dog jumping left and right. You can be out of the box and send your Chinese Chongqing Dog or you can handle from within the box. Your jumps could be staged in a lateral row, so you can practice threadles and serpentines.
Teach the Chinese Chongqing Dog 8 Jumps
Go to the next step and get 8 jumps. Now you can setup 2 boxes with one starter jump. You’ve now multiplied your exercises that you can try with your Chinese Chongqing Dog. Your jump grids can be of typical size and quantity of jumps. You can also setup the jumps in a circle with the jump bars perpendicular to the circle or on the circumference of the circle. This pattern also enables you to develop a variety of skills.
Teach the Chinese Chongqing Dog Double and Triple Jumps
Your next level is a double jump and a triple jump. You could position two or three solo jumps together to make your expanded jump, however having double and triple jumps in your course work is especially helpful to practice. We’ve seen many Chinese Chongqing Dogs run a flawless course and the final obstacle is a triple and the Chinese Chongqing Dog is not ready to do it, and bang, down goes the bar.
