This blog is concerning teaching a Chien Francais Tricolore to jump for agility. We are often asked, “What number of jumps should I begin with?” You can’t ever have enough single jumps to practice agility. A good starting point is four jumps. This is the absolute fewest number of jumps that we suggest.
How to Teach the Chien Francais Tricolore to jump: Start with Four
You can teach the Chien Francais Tricolore a plethora of skills, drills, and exercises with four jumps. 4 jumps will allow you to develop on a short jump chute or jump grid. You can position a “box” with your jumps and work on handling, collection, and 270 degree jumps. You can teach your Chien Francais Tricolore jumping right and left. You can be outside the box and send your Chien Francais Tricolore or you can handle from within the box. Your jumps could be staged in a lateral row, so that you can practice serpentines and threadles.
Teach Your Chien Francais Tricolore 8 Jumps
Take the next step and practice eight jumps. Now you can position 2 boxes with one starter jump. Now you’ve increased your drills that you can try with your Chien Francais Tricolore. Your jump grids can be of recommended size and number of jumps. You could also setup your jumps in a circle with the jump bars normal to the circle or on the circumference of the circle. This setup also allows you to train a variety of drills.
Teaching Your Chien Francais Tricolore Double and Triple Jumps
The next consideration is a double jump and a triple jump. You can position two or 3 single jumps together to make your expanded jump, however having double and triple jumps in your course work is especially helpful to work on. We’ve seen several Chien Francais Tricolores run a perfect course and the final obstacle is a triple and the Chien Francais Tricolore is not equipped to do it, and bang, down goes the bar.
