Teach the Miniature Fox Terrier Jumping for Agility

Teach Your Miniature Fox Terrier to Jump for AgilityThis blog is about teaching your Miniature Fox Terrier jumping for agility. Often we are asked, “How many jumps is best to begin with?” You can’t ever have enough solo jumps to learn agility. One good starting point is four jumps. This is the least number of jumps that we recommend.

How to Teach the Miniature Fox Terrier to jump: Begin with Four

You can teach your Miniature Fox Terrier many exercises, skills, and drills with 4 jumps. Four jumps will let you work on a short jump chute or jump grid. You can practice on a “box” with your jumps and practice 270 degree jumps, collection, and handling. You can teach your Miniature Fox Terrier jumping right and left. You can be out of the box and send your Miniature Fox Terrier or you can handle from within the box. Your jumps can be staged in a horizontal line, so that you can practice serpentines and threadles.

Teach a Miniature Fox Terrier Eight Jumps

Take the next step and practice eight jumps. Now you can setup two boxes with 1 introductory jump. Now you’ve increased your exercises that you can try with your Miniature Fox Terrier. Your jump grids can be of suggested size and number of jumps. You could also position your jumps in a circle with the jump bars perpendicular to the circle or on the perimeter of the circle. This setup also enables you to train a variety of skills.

Teaching the Miniature Fox Terrier Double and Triple Jumps

Your next level is a double jump and a triple jump. You can set 2 or 3 solo jumps together to make your expanded jump, but having double and triple jumps in your course work is extremely beneficial to practice. We’ve seen many Miniature Fox Terriers run a clean course and the last obstacle is a triple and the Miniature Fox Terrier is not ready for it, and bang, down comes the bar.
