This article is about how to teach the Bosnian Coarse-Haired Hound to jump for agility. We are often asked, “What number of jumps is best to start with?” You can’t ever have too many solo jumps to teach agility. A good starting place is four jumps. This is the minimum number of jumps suggested.
How to Teach a Bosnian Coarse-Haired Hound jumping: Begin with Four
You can teach the Bosnian Coarse-Haired Hound many drills, skills, and exercises with 4 jumps. Four jumps will allow you to work on a short jump chute or jump grid. You can position a “box” with your jumps and practice 270 degree jumps, collection, and handling. You can teach your Bosnian Coarse-Haired Hound jumping right and left. You can be outside the box and send your Bosnian Coarse-Haired Hound or you can handle from the inside of the box. Your jumps can be staged in a lateral line, so you could practice serpentines and threadles.
Teach the Bosnian Coarse-Haired Hound 8 Jumps
Go to the next logical step and work on 8 jumps. Now you can setup two boxes with 1 starter jump. You’ve now multiplied your drills that you can practice with your Bosnian Coarse-Haired Hound. Your jump grids can be of suggested size and quantity of jumps. You could even position the jumps in a circle with the jump bars perpendicular to the circle or on the perimeter of the circle. This setup also enables you to work on a variety of skills.
Teaching the Bosnian Coarse-Haired Hound Double and Triple Jumps
Your next step is a double jump and a triple jump. You can set 2 or three single jumps together to make your expanded jump, however having double and triple jumps in your course work is extremely helpful to practice. We’ve seen many Bosnian Coarse-Haired Hounds run a perfect course and the last obstacle is a triple and the Bosnian Coarse-Haired Hound is not prepared for it, and bang, down goes the bar.
