Sooner or later, most parents are going to hear: “Mom, may I get that Sloughi puppy?”
Instead of dodging the question, parents are advised to decide whether their clan is ready for a dog, and even moreso a Sloughi, says Sharon Bergen, SVP of education and training for Knowledge Learning Corporation, this country’s leading provider of early childcare.
When considering “should you get the Sloughi” Bergen advises parents evaluate the pros and cons of adding the Sloughi to the family prior to giving in to a kid’s wishes. “The Sloughi can teach our children about responsibility and become a fantastic addition to your household-or it can become a burden,” she says. Bergen suggests you ponder the following before committing:
Questions to Ask Before Deciding Should You Get The Sloughi Puppy
Who will be the one to care for the Sloughi? Families should agree in advance who will be the one responsible for walking feeding, bathing and picking up behind the Sloughi.
Is there space for the Sloughi, or does your landlord allow dogs? Families who live in townhouses or apartments may prefer a bird, a cat, or fish, rather than the Sloughi. Check at the library or online to learn more about Sloughis to decide if another pet may be more appropriate for the family.
Owning the Sloughi is a big committment and not cheap. The family has to understand that they will have to forsake other activities to properly care for the Sloughi. If the idea is too much of a committment, you should consider waiting until the child is committed enough to help care for the Sloughi.
Conclusion: Should You Get A Sloughi
Bergen suggests the whole family meet the Sloughi in advance of committing to take it home. Rearing the Sloughi is a huge commitment, so decide carefully before adopting a furry new family member.
