Sooner or later, you are likely to hear: “Mommy, can I get that Chow Chow puppy?”
Instead of avoiding the question, parents should decide whether or not their clan is ready for a new dog, especially a Chow Chow, says Sharon Bergen, SVP of education and training for Knowledge Learning Corporation, the nation’s leading provider of early childhood care and education.
When considering “should you get the Chow Chow” Bergen recommends the parents weigh the positives and negatives of adding the Chow Chow to the family prior to acquiescing to a child’s wish. “The Chow Chow can teach children about responsibility and be a welcome addition to your household-or it can be a burden,” she is quoted as saying. Bergen advises families think about the following before committing:
Questions to Consider Before Deciding Should You Get The Chow Chow Puppy
Who will be the one to care for the Chow Chow? Parents and children must agree beforehand who will be the one in charge of walking feeding, bathing and cleaning up after the Chow Chow.
Is there room for the Chow Chow, or does your landlord allow dogs? Folks who live in apartments or townhouses may be better suited to a bird, a fish, or cat, instead of the Chow Chow. Check your local library or Internet to discover more about Chow Chows to determine if another dog may be more appropriate for the household.
Rearing the Chow Chow is a big committment and may be expensive. The family must realize that they will have to forego other activities to spend time with the Chow Chow. If that requirement seems too much of a committment, you might want to consider waiting until the child is old enough to help care for the Chow Chow.
Conclusion: Should You Get A Chow Chow
Bergen advises the whole family meet the Chow Chow prior to deciding to take it home. Raising the Chow Chow is a huge commitment, so decide carefully before getting one.
