“On Trust” and “Paid For” for is one of the earliest dog tricks that has been providing as much enjoyment as anything a dog can do from the early 1900s. It’s a terrific trick to teach your Norwegian Elkhound. It is not the simplest trick to be taught however it can be built upon and delivered in several various forms to impress many people.
To teach your Norwegian Elkhound this trick, call him to you, permitting him to stand up or take a seat, as he desires, and hold his head steady with one hand, while you balance a snack on his nose.
Teach your Norwegian Elkhound the “on trust” trick
State to him, “On trust, on trust,” steadying and preventing his head from moving using 1 hand and holding up a warining finger with the other and reciting the words, “On trust, on trust”.
Teach your Norwegian Elkhound the “paid for” trick
Next, release his head, stating “paid for,” and give him a little tap underneath the chin. This will trigger him to toss the treat up and catch it. Obviously, in his earlier efforts he won’t be able to catch the snack, however he needs to be permitted to consume the snack after it lands on the ground.

Continuous repeating of this training will produce effectiveness. Over time you should stop limiting his head with your hand and allow him to balance the snack on his nose till you state “Paid for.”
He can also be taught to hold the snack in between his teeth and to not swallow it till informed to do so. This trick can be made more impressive by holding a discussion with your Norwegian Elkhound. For instance, you may state: “Friend, old boy, here is a very delicious snack, however it is ‘on trust.'”

Before he has learned the technique he will toss it up as often at 1, 2, 4, as he will at one, two, three, but he must be drilled till he will not toss it up until he hears “3.” It will make it much easier for him if you slightly highlight the “THREE” word.
Eventually you can use lots of combinations of numbers and he will wait until he hears the stressed “3.” As you are teaching him don’t make him wait too long prior to you state “three,” and enable him to eat the treat.
“Trust” and “Paid For” may be a significantly difficult trick for your Norwegian Elkhound to master and requires plenty of patience from you.
